This was made before Reese's balls fell off!

Back when she made this, she had some guts. Now, she makes movies in which she plays innocent people. I loved her in this. She should do more of these types of flicks! I mean, love the Legally Blonde films and Just Like Heaven but... none of her roles will ever compare to Vanessa Julia Lutz!

reply

Tell me about it. Vanessa is perhaps her most memorable role to date. I've been one of those fans who has been waiting for her to (using your imagery) strap on a pair and go back to her Freeway-type glory days.

reply

lol We all know that Reese will always be amazing but, we also all know that she's too popular now. Too many little girls love her. She probably knows that she'll ruin herself in the eyes of many if she does something like Freeway again. But, in my eyes, it's worth it. She'll please her original fans.

reply

You've probably nailed the reason. She's got to notice the number of people out there who love her in roles like this.

There are some rumblings that she might be taking on a role in a dark comedy as a serial killer who murders her boyfriends because she can't bring herself to dump them. That's exactly the type of movies she should be filming. She plays off-kilter roles better than most.

reply

Performers should always go forward. There are very few movies written as well as Freeway (look at what the writer/director has done since. Freeway 2 sucked), but Reese's body of work is eclectic and pretty phenominal. Movies like Freeway are not big budget and the chances of getting someone to pay her salary to do that type of character is NIL.

But, if you think she just plays the nice girl now check out Vanity Fair.

Reese's Top Ten
1. Freeway
2. Best Laid Plans
3. Vanity Fair
4. Legally Blonde
5. Overnight Delivery
6. Election
7. Just Like Heaven
8. Sweet Home Alabama
9. Walk the Line
10. Cruel Intentions

reply

This just shows how great reese is!!
I cant think of a better person to play vanessa in freeway and i cant think of anyone innocent enough to play annette in cruel intentions, she was great.

Am I the only one who, seing the name of the thread, thought she was transsexual?

Yep, pretty much.

reply

Reese's body of work is eclectic and pretty phenomenal

I do agree with this. She's just about covered every genre out there, except for horror, sci-fi and a few others. She's a truly gifted performer that can embody any character.

I like that you gave props to her lesser known movies like Best Laid Plans and Overnight Delivery. I thought Best Laid Plans was pretty decent and she gave a subtle, effective performance. Overnight Delivery is a guilty pleasure for me. It's ridiculous but fun. And you can't go wrong with the Reese and Paul pairing.

I love Badarse Witherspoon roles just like any other Freeway fan. But I can also understand why she does the cute movies. For one, she's concerned about the image she creates of herself for her own little girl, more than the fan little girls. Second, Witherspoon seems to be socially conscious and concerned with women's issues. She's aware of her position and wants to be have a positive impact, especially on young girls that are coming up seeing the likes of Hilton, Lohan and Spears. I admire Witherspoon's concern

However, I could be wrong and maybe Witherspoon has just become a big pansy. If I got the chance I'd challenge her to pick up another Vanessa Lutz like role.

reply

uh, her little girl fans and her daughter don't have to watch all her films. come on. you've gotta play different characters. don't just play the good girl roles. she needs to play a character like this again. all her fans deserve it. and she better hurry up because she's getting old fast now. she only has about ten years left to be young. and nobody will like her that much when she is old and 50 years old acting. she should know by now by reading things online from her fans that her fans love her performance in this film.

reply

*beep* yeah! I mean 'Legally Blonde' is ok, but 'Freeway' really kicks ass! A dark, edgy, social-satire that pulls no punches and takes no prisoners!

Never forget; Hitler was a moralist.

reply

yeah and she never talks about this film. how can she never talk about this film. it's like Johnny Suede and Brad Pitt. he never talks about that great film.

reply

I just saw this movie and now I'm convinced she can play Bonnie Parker. She is one tough chick.

reply

I think after Fear is where it all went downhill.

Glen Coco is my luffer.

reply

I don't know, she did do Election and American Psycho after Fear and both were dark comedies. She had her balls firmly in place when attaching her name to something as controversial as American Psycho and taking on an unlikable character like Tracy Flick takes guts too.

I think her choices went considerably less edgy the moment she had her first kid. A lot of actors say they choose differently once they've become a parent and Reese is no different. Unfortunate really, I think we've lost badass Reese for good.

What do people scream when they see you?
Susan
Suuusan. I scared myself there.

reply

Oh yeah. I forgot about American Psycho.

Glen Coco is my luffer.

reply

You should check out certain Thai 'films' if you like your women to have balls.

reply

yeah but she was only in it for like 5 minutes.

reply

but she has to know by now by reading things online that a lot of her fans love this performance and she has to know that it's unlike any of her other characters and so just once, just once she should play a similar character in a similar movie. her fans deserve it and that's not asking too much of her.

reply

Reese is very smart, very crafty and has laid out the perfect Hollywood career for herself. She did the edgy stuff as a teenager/twenty something, and now she can star in vehicles that put asses in the seats just because she's in it without having to get naked or anything. I have a lot of friends who are fairly new to indy films that bash her left and right, but I direct them to films like "Freeway" so they can see where she got her start.

reply

Oh! What a wonderful movie this was! I still love Reese but Just Like Heaven and Sweet Home Alabama not so much. She can and should do much better than that.

reply

Unless it was a really well made sequel to Freeway she'd be attacked by many for "trying" to act tough.

reply

She did very well in this, but I don't think such a one dimensional character is a real challenge. She had to cuss and fight a lot. How is that a daring performance?

I prefer her acting in Election. Also mean-spirited and totally *beep* up, but in a more subtle, intelligent way.

reply

yeah, but since you wrote that she was in a movie(wild)in which she shows her boobs, so even now she shows nudity if a role requires it which is awesome for her male fans and her female lesbian fans!

reply

Well, basically her career stalled a bit (Water for Elephants and the one where she played a softball player with Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd were flops) so now she's back doing gritty stuff and maybe looking to grab another Oscar. She's very smart about her career and knows when to change it up.

reply

Smart, like Hot Pursuit?

Want three steaks?... My mistake. Four steaks. 

reply

Wonder what the hell Reese was thinking of when she did Hot pursuit?

Lara Croft Himiko! The First Sun Queen! This is Yamatai.

reply

not true anymore, she had to show her boobs in wild.

exactly, totally agree. this is by far her best performance. how come she hasn't ever played a character like this? I mean it's been almost 20 years since this film was made. what a disappointment. how do you know her middle name anyway? at what part in the film do they say or show her middle name?

reply

this was her most memorable role, in Wild she was also pretty good

so many movies, so little time

reply

exactly. I totally agree with you. and I hate people who say she was better or more memorable in election, she wasn't. I dont' remember it was vividly or as well as I remember this film. this is a better film than election.
