How did the book end?

I was reading on Wikipedia that the book has a very different ending from the movie. Having never read the book, I'm curious to know how it ended.

If anyone has read the book, can you please summarize the ending for me?

A whole lot of things in this movie have very little to do with the book. In a loose sense, the premise and general plot drift remain. But nearly all the particulars were changed, and not for the better.
