'That's a really lame excuse, Dad'

So they divorce, the Mom gets the kid, moves all over the place (why that was a better life for the kid than a steady home the Dad could provide is another question) seemingly as far across the planet from Canada as possible, and the Dad is supposed to take this guilt trip crap from his ingrate of a daughter because he didn't stop his own life and spend lots of money flying all the way to New Zealand and back every other month?

Ok, maybe he could have made it at least once in 10 years, or they could have met half way or something, but I just didn't think that comment was called for.

However, it did fit the snooty attitude she had during most of the movie, and her Mom was recently deceased and she was 14, so I'll give her a pass--this time!!

Maybe you're digging too far into this I guess. I just enjoy the movie for what it is; the most entertaining, melancholic, at the same time good-spirited uplifting family oriented animal themed movie of all time.

I like to be interactive during my movie watching experience.

Sometimes I'm just sitting back enjoying the movie, when somebody says something (I think is) stupid, or does something out of character, or WHATEVER, and I've got to jump up out of my seat and call them on it!!

That's just the way I am, and when I was watching the scene I described, I wondered about it, and brought my wondering about it, and my take on it, onto the message board.

You'd wipe out half the conversations on these boards if wondering about the why of a scene wasn't allowed.

I've never been married, much less had to share a child with my ex, so I wanted to know if her expectations of her father coming all that way to see her were normal or not.

I thought it was totally called for. I don't think she was saying it to be snotty; i think she was hurt. Yes, it's a lot of money, but, at least the way i interpreted it, he hadn't been communicating with her at all. He could have called/written/whatever and made a visit or two in the 10 years they'd been apart. She's his daughter. I would hope a relationship with her would be important to him.

Please don't feed the trolls.

And if Amy's mother really was a successful singer--we saw that she made at least one CD--she would have toured, and possibly visited the United States or Canada.

... she was 14, so I'll give her a pass--this time!!
That's the key point.🐭
