Remake of The Defiant Ones (1958)

Does anyone know if this film is a remake of the classic action flic The Defiant Ones (1958)? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051525/

reply

officially its not. but its sure as hell identical to the 1958 movie... clear influence/inspiration...

It's an unauthorized remake, a pretty bad one at that full of disjointed sub-plots and far fetched situations. Had the makers of the original wanted to take legal action for infringement, they would likely have won their case.

the basic premise is "the defiant ones"(which i had a chance to see for the first time in awhile recently...but missed); what happens during the movie, though, is a totally different pot of soup. it's tasty; but you don't wanna eat it all the time.
although, salma hayek's presence in it leaves a pleasant aftertaste.
and, excuse the mixed-metaphor, but this is a "popcorn" movie. a formula action film, full of smart-ass wisecracks, gunfire and pyrotechnics. and the obligatory chase scenes...
not a waste of approximately an hour and a half of your life.

...was just wondering if there was any subtle references to The Defiant Ones in this movie???

reply

It is. When the movie came out, they had Fisburne hosting during a showing of the original, to tie them in together either on TBS or TNT.
According to Imdb it is.

I thought it to be a very loose remake of The Defiant Ones when I was watching it.
