They were going to make a sequel

From a Goldie Interview

Q: So why aren't the studios targeting older women?
A: Here's a good story. We did First Wives Club, and it netted around $250 million. It was a great success, but they didn't want to do a sequel. Diane [Keaton]—amazing, tenacious Diane—called me and said, "We've got to do this. We've got to make this happen." So she dug up a script that was rejected by them. I looked at it, and I thought that a lot of it was quite funny.

Yeah I heard about the sequel too.

Except I heard the studio actually gave the sequel the greenlight at some point but refused to pay Diane, Goldie and Bette anymore money than they paid them in the first film to return.

So the ladies refused to return because they said if they were men they'd all be getting huge pay rises to return and thought it was unfair they weren't getting more money.

I read that in OK magazine.

It's a real shame because I would've LOVED to see a sequel! Especially with the original actresses onboard!
