professional women are man haters and lesbians seems to be the theme of this picture. i couldn't fathom the use of the father's "abuse" of the mother. if, as it was presented, it was enough to throw 2 intelligent, mature women into totally damaged lives, what are the wife beaters' daughters doing tonight. i thought we'd passed that phase but i see by this film that the same nonsense is still being put out there. i am taken aback to see a film mainly produced by women touting the same old trash. it's in the same class with only vaginal orgasm is valid, that is, if there is such a thing as female orgasm at all. save us, dr ruth. swinton is gorgeous, but so what? the film is a travesty.

No, the professional woman in this instance, not all professional women. Where did they ever suggest that all professional women are like that? And she was no man-hater, otherwise she wouldn't have had a the type of relationship she had with her boyfriend. She was domineering & demanding, even severely dysfunctional, but I didn't see evidence that she hated him. If anything, she hated herself. As well, she's obviously not a lesbian... she's bisexual. The only one stereotyping is you.

I honestly don't understand how people get these absolute messages from a movie that never directly or outwardly addresses "all women" or "all" anything. It's a story about several individuals. There's no propaganda or general message.
