visible microphone in some 10 scenes

you can see the microphone in the first sex scene, in the scene with the two sisters in the bathroom and much more. Any idea why? I mean, it must have been done on purpose...!??!!!

reply

Because the projectionist did not set his frame right.
It happens sometimes, it's weird, and kind of interesting, and certainly makes the cinematographer look like an amateur.

reply

You are right, its because of incompetent projectionists. But why blame it on the cinematographer? The mike is photographed on the film as a matter of policy. The projector is supposed to be set to crop it out.

reply

Seven years have passed, and nobody has asked or noted that if this is true, that it is the projectionist, this would vary from theater to theater, and even from one showing to the next, and that they'd always be visible in a DVD version.

I'm not buying that explanation AT ALL.

Why would a perfectionist director want to relinquish control of the final cropping of his work, to some unknown, low-paid, hopefully sober projectionist, a different one in every theater?

'as a matter of policy'. ?? ??

What is the purpose of that "policy"... democracy?

reply

i noticed the microphones when i watched the film for the second time and i trying to think to it was done on purpose. it's amusing to see the microphones in more than ten scenes. it's like playing the game "Spot the microphone!" but the microphones are also intrusive and disturbing

reply

"but the microphones are also intrusive and disturbing"...and yet the most interesting thing in this otherwise unpunctuated tirade of utter drivel.

reply

The most usual reason for that happens during a re-edit of a film for TV (4:3) format. Rather than cropping the sides, often editors go back to the original cut of the film, and remove the black borders top and bottom from the full-screen video. This can often result in microphones, which should have been obscured by the borders and therefore out-of-frame, suddenly re-appearing.

It's not the cinematorgapher's fault, it's usually the fault of lazy work by whoever is prepping the film for tv airing.

I had no idea "Signs" was a "fancy Hollywood movie". I thought it was a piece of *beep* with one scene that was supposed to be scary and ended up falling flat.

I think he/she was drunk.

You'd have to be on some kind of drugs to watch this movie.

i can see alot of micropohone in hannah montana.. even the actor holds it while singing..

Interesting. I had seen the mike listed as a goof on the first page when I checked IMDb before the film began. But I didn't notice the mike in a single scene. I guess I spent too much time actually watching the performances.
