Thought Provoking

i just saw this movie and thought it was so excellent. I loved the way the movie was presented, with the different timelines and such. Martha Plimpton gives an amazing performance. The movie stirred my thoughts and evoked questions into the human condition. I loved it...and highly recommend it.

I too loved this movie. I rarely find a movie to rave about and recommend to all my family and friends, but this one I insisted they see.

I also thought the soundtrack was good. I normally don't watch the credits, but the Lucinda Williams song "Which Will" during the credits was a perfect choice to end the movie...like it was part of it.

Very well done.

Wonderful film. I'd never heard of this movie until the day i bought it, it was right at the bottom of a pile of 'bargain' videos priced at £1.99! It sounded interesting on the box, and i had seen Martha Plimpton in another movie, so i bought it. It's one of the best films in my collection of around 450 films.

Okay, it will probably be a 'spoiler' (I'm taking a chance) but I thought that because of the Oklahoma accent, it was very difficult to understand the dialogue specially when English is not your language but who killed the woman in the garage? And was she Tom's mother? The movie is very well done and the acting great. Martha Plimpton is great, just great. Third time I'm seeing her perform and she is one of the best underrated, alas, actress in movies.

I just watched this film last night. Wow, it really packs an emotional punch. It grabs a hold of you and never lets go.

The performances were extraordinary, especially Hal Holbrook as the sheriff, his character provided that balance between "good" faith and "bad" faith. The movie didn't cause me to dislike for people who proclaim themselves to be christians, it just reitterated the fact that some people use religion as a means to better themselves all the while there are more serious and detremental issues that require further rehabilitation, whether this involves further incarceration, counseling, or medicinal thereapy such as prescription drugs is yet to be answered in our society.

One thing is certain, religion can be a dangerous tool when in the wrong hands.

I'm going to have to watch this movie again. Haven't seen it in years. The first time I watched it, I was so busy trying to recognize extras in the movie (it was filmed in my hometown) that I didn't really "get" the plot. Perhaps I should give it another try. I actually should break down and buy my own copy, just for the memories.

It's really a good film. Very quiet in it's slow pacing and methodical in it's detail but the end packs an emotional punch that you'll never forget. The film is told in fragments, slowly revealing a little of each character but in different time frames. Martha Plimpton is always wonderful to watch, a very underrated actress.

The woman in the garage was Tom's mother. She killed herself, sitting in the closed garage with the car running.

Way underrated film that deserves a second look. Solid cast, as well.

It focuses public attention on problems of family violence better than most films, apart from River's Edge and Dolores Claiborne
