Incredible

Wow. This was an affecting movie! Know that might be a strange way to put it, but such a sad touching and compelling movie.

The directing by Tim Blake Nelson was sensational, and the acting just as good.

Do yourself a favor and see this

I agree. I had seen this when it first came out on video, and just finished watching it again. Really powerful movie, even better the second time. Nelson created such a quiet intensity right from the start, with his script and direction.

Martha Plimpton blew me away, but you're right, the entire cast was great. Anderson was especially chilling, but not at all in a showy way. Particularly when she said to him 'I'll go out whenever I please' and he responded with 'You sure won't...'

This is easily on my list of favorites now, and I just happened to rent it because I remembered it being pretty good. I'm going to watch it again tonight with TBN's commentary.

Well, the commentary is nearly as interesting as the movie. Nelson goes into great detail about his editorial choices, the stillness of the camera, the time-shifting, the lack of any music score, etc. Naturally he has wonderful things to say about his actors.

He's exceptionally well spoken, and rarely does he stay quiet for longer than a few moments. If you're a fan of the movie, you'll love this track.

By the way, during the end credits one of the 'special thanks to' lists Joel and Ethan Coen. During the commentary, Nelson mentions they attended an early screening and made some suggestions regarding the editing.
