why the hate for this movie?

Do they think that *beep* like what I saw doesn't happen in real life? Rape, murder, the culprit getting away with it thanks to the system? If that's the case then news flash: yes!!!! They all happened.

What hate? Also what does bad things happening in real life have to do with how good this film is?

But yeah, very good film. Just watched it again for the first time in a long time.

Because Sally Field couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag and I don’t buy her character at all. Think of all the 100 better actresses they could’ve cast in place of her, heck the midget paranormal expert from Poltergeist would have been better for crying out loud.

Speaking for myself: I didn't see much to like in it. Sutherland's character was a cartoonish villain. No backstory, no motivation, not even mental illness.

I know Joe Mantegna can do better. His cop was so wimpy in this.

I like Ed Harris and Sally field, too. In this, naah. And the girls who played Megan and Julie. I hope they did better later in their careers. I think both are still acting.

Much of the dialog sounded poorly looped, too, especially Megan.
