so what exactly was the terrorists motivation?

I enjoyed this movie very much but I am still somewhat confused on the main terrorists motivation for wanting to crash the plane with the bomb into Washington, we are led to believe it is because he wants his leader freed but it turns out he apparently set him up to be captured? Why? I was not clear.

Lol- surely the OP is just being silly? God (Allah) I hope he isn't that stupid!!!

the line that confused me is when it is mentioned that Hassan "orchestrated Jaffa's abduction"

reply

Yes it's suggested offhandedly that Nagi himself betrayed his boss so that he would have an 'excuse' to take the plane hostage. However it's never confirmed.

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time Del Boy, it's them that started me drinking!

I think Nagi's plan with the nerve gas and the use of the plane to poison the Eastern seaboard of the US was a secret plan he was doing. The hijacking (which wasn't really necessary) was a diversion to throw off not only the government, but his followers. Remember when one of the guys complains and he gets killed? That was due to them not knowing about the real plan. They also probably didn't know about DeMou.

The leader of the terrorists had his own agenda that wasn't revealed until his leader was released. At that point things get a little dicey as it becomes obvious that the plane was on a suicide mission. It's important to follow the conversations between the bad guys when this information is revealed.

reply

He wants to free his leader, then strike a massive blow against the US, killing millions. It's made very clear in the movie.

reply

Basically he wanted to pull a September 11 with one plane.

See you in hell, candy boys!

reply

The hijacking is necessary so they can undermine the US and their "no negotiation" policy in front of the world while delivering the nerve gas strike.

Meh!
