John Leguizamo's character...

I was watching this movie and I had forgotten just how useless a character Rat was. He's basically the special forces equivalent of the idiot chief in every cop movie. I mean, every decision he wants to make would have gotten them killed. That plane would have been blown up/shot down on about 10 different occasions had they proceeded the way he wanted to. He dismisses grant's input at every turn, and grant turns out to be right every time. Then to top it all off, he kills Nagi a mili-second AFTER nagi kills the pilots. I know he had just been shot, but jesus, you couldn't have done that one second earlier?

He didn't even realize they held the biggest ace card with the bomb. I mean, they could've detonated it mid-ocean, killing everyone including the terrorists on the plane and Nagi's goals would not have been accomplished.

In the case of 2 month old Alisha, Brian, YOU ARE THE FATHER

reply

You make it seem like Rat was against Grant at every turn. The reality was that it was just the opposite. He sought Grant's input and in the end (virtually requests) that Grant take up arms with the remaining able-bodied soldiers against the terrorists. 🐭

reply

Yep correct, Bingo! The OP is a MORON

reply

Agreed ... Rat was the opposite of the idiot chief trope. He was decisive but open to reason.

Just watched the film again and was struck by how cool & competent the military guys were (often when a pencil-pusher like Grant is the hero, the soldiers are portrayed as bull-headed grunts)

Then again, I also recall seeing Leguizamo, Morton and Wong in the opening credits and assuming they were going to play computer nerds.

reply

yes his character was annoy, and was useless at being a soldier.

he is early example of casting character because of race rather than talents. this film would be much better with less annoying actor.
