Madonna's voice is very reminiscent of Julie Covington's

I'm listening to the original soundtrack and I'm quite surprised at how similar their voices are. Julie's voice is of course stronger but as far as pitch, tone, style, Madonna's is very similar so I don't see why she has been criticized so much for her singing on this movie? I guess people are way more familiar with the butchery that is Patti Lupone's singing, so I guess in that regard Madonna's voice is totally different(thank God), but her singing was fine.
