What did Katharine find in the diary?

I have watched this film a couple of times and I think Ralph Fiennes is compelling as the main character.
I loved the desert scenery too.

I have one question: what did Katharine find in Almasy's diary besides the photo of him as a child?

It looked like a birth certificate.. can someone enlighten me on this matter?
