I'm sure this board is pretty dead, but i got a question

So I just caught the end on HBO. Ferris Bueller's Day Off comin on after, so i figured what the hay, i'll watch the end.

How was the basket at the end scored by the Hornets not counted? If anything it should've been considered a foul against Knicks...right? I mean i don't know basketball rules real well...but i dont know.

Because IVAN TAKE CHARGE!

By being in a set position and not moving his feet, it was a charge on the offense. Offensive foul, no basket.

If the defensive player has his feet planted, and the offensive player hits him, it's an offensive foul and a turnover. Ivan had been having trouble with it throughout the movie, but he planted his feet and took the charge. If the defender's feet are not planted, it's a defensive foul and one free throw in that case, because he made the basket.

Snoopy is one cool cat...although he's a dog.

It's a charge because Ivan's feet were planted and so he was still and the offensive player ran into him. It's significant because there are several scenes in the movie that Ivan gets taken advantage of because he doesn't know how to "plant his feet". Eddie takes the time and teaches him unbeknownst to Bailey who was trying to capitalize on that weak aspect of his game and Ivan came through for the Knicks.

Also, in reality, the basket would not have counted because Larry Johnson double dribbled twice. lol. That's the one thing about this movie that ALWAYS gets me. No one saw that? o.O

I know this is long, but I'm just really bored. lol.

I know this question is two years old, but this movie took place before the NBA instated a "restricted area". If the movie were made today that would be a good basket, because the defender would have been well within the restricted area. You cannot take a charge there, and it would in fact be a defensive blocking foul if anything at all was called.

I just watched this on HBO and thought the same thing. Good call.
