It's just fun

I don't really care about the predictability of the film; I enjoyed it. Maybe part of the reason I did was that a friend of mine, my family, and I were extras at the Charlotte Coliseum during part of the filming. Also it brings back memories of all the Charltte Hornets games we went to, not to mention concerts, etc. that we attended there. (Now it means even more since the Charlotte Coliseum was sold and demolished.) But no matter what, I think it was just made to be a feel good movie, and it is nice when the underdog wins in the end and the bad guy gets booted in the behind for his bad behavior.

I love this movie! Whoopi just shines! Great supporting cast and of course it probably will never happen....but so what. It makes you laugh, it moves quickly and it's just fun. Chill out and enjoy :)

I know! Some people take movies like this too seriously. Lighten up!

I watch this movie every time it comes on. It's just a fun movie. Whoopie is funny without being obvious. Even though it could never happen, she plays an every day person with such style and realism. The scenes where she goes for a new wardrobe is hilarious and the tryouts for the cheerleaders is funny if only to watch the late Gene Anthony Ray dancing is a** off.
Although I don't watch basketball as a rule, the games are exciting to watch and I look forward to John Salley's scenes.
All in all, a good movie to watch.

I do too! I don't remember GAR in this movie though. Usually it's either edited or it doesn't have my undivided attention so I'm not surprised. I love this movie! For some reason I like John Salley's scenes as well. Even Rick Fox is likeable here. Oh and Whoopi is always funny. She is crazy.

I agree. This movie is just fun. You don't have to think and you should just sit there and enjoy it for what it is.

That's cool that you were an extra. I had no idea that the movie was filmed in Charlotte at the old Coliseum.

I thought the movie was pretty dumb --- but it is what it is. :)

I still can't get over the fact that the writers actually had the owner of a New York City franchise WANT to move his team to St. Louis! St. Louis, really? Come on!!! haha

It's just a generic sports movie and the 90's were filled with it. Before (and even afterwards) that you had the Mighty Ducks movies following the same plot and before that the Cleveland Indians movies following that and a ton of other sports movies following the exact same plot.

And still the best of all "Underdog turned into something with the owner ignoring it" movie is Slap Shot from the 70's because it wasn't PG-rated childish pussy crap where one surprise player or person made all the sudden, unrealistic, predictable difference and it didn't end on a high note since the winning team was still sold. It's the best sports movie ever because of that.

Even Victory was better than Eddie, since it at least was based on a true story.
