How does Drive compare to Rush Hour?

It's been posted on the Rush Hour 3 board that the whole Rush Hour franchise is a rip-off of Drive. Has anyone seen both movies and how do they compare? I've never seen Drive, but Rush Hour is one of my favorites of all time. I guess I'll have to go watch Drive.

Bond actor #6 is Daniel Craig.

I liked Drive more than Rush Hour. It's got poorer production values, even weaker writing and acting, but it delivers far more entertaining martial arts action, which is really what I expect out of this kind of flick. The comedy, when it's there, is actually very funny, but it's mostly present in only two particular sequences, the fight scene where Dacascos and Hardison are tied together and the motel/garage battle.

Drive isn't really a movie that holds up well in repeat viewings, though, as I enjoyed the movie less the second and third time I saw it. Some of the stuff that seemed charming and funny the first time, like Brittany Murphy's performance, only seemed to slow down some of the action when I watched the movie again. The last fight scene between Dacascos and that superhenchman, despite being rather lengthy and featuring a lot of brutal beatings, is a bit of a letdown compared to some of the more innovative fights earlier on.

Kadeem Hardison isn't a screeching, annoying asshat and Mark Dacascos doesn't make stupid faces when he is doing martial arts, so I say Drive is way better.

I seen Drive after I seen Rush Hour and i definately saw something there that reminded me of Rush Hour.I m liked Rush Hour i thought it was funny but I loved Drive. The chemistry with the main characters in Drive didn't seem forced and kadeem wasn't as loud and annoying as Tucker was at times.

I still think it needs a sequel I want to find out if all those other activated guys go after Toby at the end.

I know its common for film buffs to argue that the lesser-seen production is better than its big-budget Hollywood counterpart, but I have to disagree in this case. I feel Rush Hour is much better than Drive.

Chris Tucker can be very hit or miss with people, but him and Jackie Chan are a much more entertaining team than the bland Mark Dacascos (who can fight, but can't act) and Kadeem Hardison. Rush Hour also had more exciting action and just did a better job at blending buddy comedy along with thrills. Drive's attempts at humor fell very flat for me and the action sequences lacked spark.

Drive (1997) is a cult-classic martial arts action comedy, and it set the stage for the subsequent success of the Rush Hour movies.

this movie is sweet, but lacking in any sorta way that would make it a classic like rush hour.

Better action and a black comedian who doesn't annoy.
