Which sub played the Stingray?

I'm surprised no one's asked this question:

Are there any WW2 era subs that still run?
If not, was it being towed?
Is it even possible to tow a sub?
When the sub was running on the surface, it didn't look like CGI.
Since they filmed this in the SF bay, could it have been the Pampanito?

I'm surprised no one's asked this question:

Because most of your questions are answered in the trivia and FAQ sections of this same site and thus common knowledge for most here and we don't have to ask.

Just a few seconds and a couple of mouse clicks would have left you not needing to ask.

Are there any WW2 era subs that still run?

As in: get underway and dive? No.
Though there are a couple of subs that can turn over and run their Diesel engines.

If not, was it being towed?

Yes the sub was being towed.

Is it even possible to tow a sub?

Why would it not be possible to tow a sub? really? hello McFly.
Of course it is possible to tow a sub.

When the sub was running on the surface, it didn't look like CGI.

Because it wasn't CGI, it was being towed.

Since they filmed this in the SF bay, could it have been the Pampanito?

Yes.
Again... it's all over the Trivia and FAQ.

Actually, I checked the FAQ's this site and found absolutely no information on the sub. I'm not in the habit of checking the trivia section, and why the hell not ask the other posters. After posting, I found all the answers to my questions on the Wikipedia.

As a matter of fact, I've been on board the Pampanito.

I had doubts about towing a sub, because 90% of it is underwater.

Thanks for your help.

Have a nice day.

A Sub on the surface acts as a surface ship. Just because it has a deep draft while on the surface means nothing.

Yep. That's what Wikipedia said. Also, they had to tow it across the bay from SF to Alameda to make the movie. Thanks.

The ship you see in dock and going around the bay is a dummy ship being towed. The interior is just a set. They sold a bunch of the parts on eBay a few years ago.

Harry Dean Stanton actually served on a sub in WW2 so you know it's pretty authentic.
