Does it ruin the original one !?

i saw the original not too long ago, and i prefer this version over the original. I usually like the old classics better, and in some ways, the original is better such as the misogny of the headmaster to his wife and mistress. The ending is also creepier, but to me, the remake is more entertaining and in color, the moods and atmosphere are almost perfect.

In some ways the original will become less effective because you are expecting some of the twists.

Yet personnaly find every aspect of the original to be superior to anyhting in the remake. Sure a lot of the old prints are worn out (track down the Criterion DVD) and it's in black and white but I think this film works to the strenght of that medium unlike the supremely mediocre remake. The remake isn't terrible by itself, but it's insulting in context with the Original Clouzot Masterpiece. So even expecting the twists there is still a lot to enjoy from the film.
