sharetbh i don't know. the only real reason I'm scared of dentists is the fact that I don't like anything I can't control in my mouth. Some people have had bad experiences. I have to say I don't particularly like doctors either but I wouldn't avoid them.
Where would I be without him.
I think because inside the mouth is much sensitiver, when you lie down you give the controll to the dentist. I think also much people don't like the brackets and needle etc. He can easy to punt in your mouth, not pretty when you not are anaesthesia.

the freaking instruments, u see them on a table, they put it in ur mouth, it hurts.
it freaking hurt when the doc kept injecting me and used a screwdriver thing to pull my tooth off. that was horrible.
Most people are not really scared of The Dentist himself, but those little instruments he uses, like the needle, the drill...not very pleasant having those things in your mouth...
shareWatch Marathon Man and you will understand.
shareOk thats all reali true.... I think I have been given a phobia of the dentist.... !

Relax ppple,
Think of all the pple Dentists' have made satisfied and happy, from the teenager with crooked teeth, to the casualty with broken front teeth, to the person with NO teeth i.e. with dentures..
They're there to heal.
All this movie has done is exaggerated a common fear humans have with ANY type of surgery.. be it on our teeth, to anywhere else.
And thats what movies do best

I never really got the whole fear of dentists and, not doctors either. Myself I'm not afriad of either of them. Even after recently watching this film I'm not afriad. Hell, I mostly watched this film to give me insight as to why people are afraid of the dentist.
I've come to the following hypothesis thanks to this film. When you get a scary procedure from the doctor you're asleep. When you get a scary procedure from the dentist you're awake. While logistically you should be more afraid of the asleep procedure you never experience the tools being at work inside you. Therefore, you only experience the after effects of the helpful work. With dentists you experience the pain of the tools, you hear the sounds, you feel the lack of control over your own mouth. To experience a procedure and, to sleep through a procedure is different. . . That's my theory anyway considering I'm not afraid of the dentist I don't hold it in much regard...

I think thats a very good point. It's also to do with a fear of the unknown and other things. I don't completely know why I am afraid personally though.

Because for one bad doctor there are so many good ones. AND For one good dentist there so many bad ones.
We all have bad memories involving a dentist, with so much pain. But only a few of us can say the same about doctors.
