Why didn't the fire melt everyone?

I have no knowledge of things like this so this may be a stupid question.

Surely a fire that strong would have baked everyone inside that tunnel. The heat would've blown up gas tanks and things, like that, right?

Can someone explain in small words :P?

Depends on how close you were to the source I'm guessing.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned - Summer 2011

Chemistry and Physics weren't on hollywood's list of approved belief systems yet.

It did, actually. The TV show Lost was actually a loose remake of this film.

Actually the flash fire would of seared all the lungs and if some how they actually able to survive the explosion the toxic fumes of gas, plastic, and tires burning would have finished them off. But then there wouldn't be a movie.
