Aside from that, it really isn't about the religious aspects of Salem as much as it was about the concept of a witch hunt. It's not based on the facts of Salem but uses it as a vehicle just like how Apocalypse Now did with Vietnam.
Not to say that the Salem incident doesn't deserve scrutiny and is a serious reflection on what can go wrong but if you want to make a statement on the religious aspects of it you really should study the incident itself and not a fabrication meant to convey a different message.
