Toni Collette's Voice

Was anyone else amazed by Toni's singing? When she's standing alone singing and is discovered by Lewis, I felt chills in my spine that I only get when I hear honestly emotional, beautiful voices singing. The fact that she did such a wonderful cover of "Don't Dream It's Over" was just the frosting on my cake. I have been a Toni Collette fan since I saw Muriel's Wedding (one of my favorite all-time movies), but hearing her sing made me realize just how talented of an actor she is.

So was I.

Who was Doug in the movie? (I don't remember names).

It was played by David Wenham, who plays Farimir on Lord of the Rings.

Doug was the arsonist guy.

The first time I saw Toni Collette was in 1990 at the Sydney Opera House where she was appearing as Petra the maid in a production of Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music".In That show she did a fabulous song called "The Miller's Son" and I was knocked out by her fabulous voice. It was not till the release of "Cosi" that I heard her sing again and was absolutely amazed by her rendition of the Crowded House song 'Don't Dream It's Over'.
I would have loved to have seen her in the Broadway musical "The Wild Party" and now she has again shown what a great voice she has with all the songs she performs in "Connie And Carla".

PLEASE PRODUCERS AND DIRECTORS LET THE WORLD HAVE MORE OF TONI COLLETTE SHOWING US WHAT A WONDERFUL VOICE SHE HAS!!!!!!!

reply

It's odd that most of you didn't know Toni Collette had such an awesome voice before you saw Cosi, I knew she was a fabulous singer before then, and didn't even know a movie existed of the play I had to study for year 12 english in 2000 until half an hour ago when a Swedish friend mentioned it to me.

Doug was the one who burnt the cats....

I saw COSI when it first came out and immediatly recognized Toni Collette's voice as being superb. That was the best rendition of "Don't Dream It's Over" that I ever heard. I have hoped to find a soundtrack, but no luck Then I tried to find any cd that she might of made, no luck. I know I can find her on the "Wild Party", but I was hoping to find something more...contemporary. Does any one know if she ever made a cd of just her singing?

Yes, it's "Throw Your Arms Around Me" when Lewis comes across her in the rehearsal room and he tells her she has a lovely voice.

"Throw your arms around me" is regarded as one of the hardest songs to sing.

TONI ROCKS!!!

She does "Throw Your Arms Around Me" by The Hunters and Collecters in the church and "Stand By Me" in the theatre at the end. I'm pretty certain she doesn't sing any Crowded House although that would've been fantastic!

reply

You can hear her sing Don't Dream It's Over in the closing credits of the movie.

A little late for a response, but yeah... I just saw this movie for the first time two days ago. I already loved Toni Collette (because of one of my favorite all-time movies, as well... Muriel's Wedding), but was pretty amazed with her voice. I like her even more now.

It's OK, Claude... it's me... Dad...
