Whose gun killed the boy?

One thing I'm confused with. The Mafia guy when shoots The detective has his back to the boy. It's the detective's gun that killed the boy. It's the c detective who gets shot but still manages to withdraw his gun and shoot the Mafia guy. The last shot is heard from detective's gun and you see The boy getting killed. Is that a big blunder overlooked?

When the dealer falls down from being shot you can see him firing his gun more or less over his shoulder. So the ballistics report seems totally kosher.
