favorite movie ending of all time

this film has my favorite ending of all time. i even wish there was a sequel, cause i want to take off down that road with ruth and see if she can really make a life. i think she can.

Her being an un-rehabilitated and out of control addict with $15k in cash, it's obvious where she would have ended up. And she'd probably be dead before she could even spend half of it.

Hated her character and the ending. She basically deceived everyone, and took that guys money anyway. She was all about the money the entire movie..very one dimensional..No sign of any other feelings she might have had. The writers missed a good opportunity.

I would lay bets that in the sequel she would be selling Amway.

Just watched this for the first time on Ovation. I think she will make it because she used the can to grease the window in the bathroom instead of trying to huff it. And the fact that the start of the second tape in the how to buy a house program plays in the credits. (Ovation didn't play that, but I read it in Crazy Credits--thanks IMDB!)

True....she starts 'thinking' about more things than the next high. Realizes there are more people out to get her than fellow junkies and cops/judges.

She has to figure out what to do with herself long term.

I liked this ending as well, although for a different reason. We essentially have one long take of Ruth walking away from all the action into the unknown. It reminded me very much of the last shot of "The 400 Blows" with one long take of the main character running away much like Ruth does (only he reaches the sea). Like "Citizen Ruth", that film was also the first film for it's director (Francois Truffaut).

There are also two other references to famous directorial debuts, I think. The obvious one is the title, very similar to Orson Welles' debut feature "Citizen Kane". Also, as mentioned in another thread, the dinner scene is reminiscent of a similar scene in David Lynch's first film "Eraserhead".
