Why'd she let them cut Tree down? :(

The movie is on tv at the moment in Australia...

I can't believe she just let them cut tree down. I never would have.

grrrr :(

because the tree was too old and she wanted to do something nice for the main guy cause he helped her

I just watched the movie tonight and the ending kind of bothered me. That tree had grown to 175 feet and would likely survive for many more years if it hadn't been cut down. I don't quite get the purpose of ending the movie this way. The rest of the movie was good, and I realize I'm probably missing something about the ending that would help me understand it better. I gave the movie an 8/10. It was 10/10 until the end, when Sister Anthony let Richard cut Tree down.

correction: 75 feet not 175

Tree already lived way past its prime and instead of letting it just fall down during the next storm she wanted Tree to go out in style.

If it had never been cut down, she would have never remembered going to New York with her father and that she had NOT been abandoned, but had gotten lost. Her tree gave her a gift back that her parents DID love her!

The argument is that of Euthanasia...the tree was dying. The message is better a blaze of glory, than a prolonged death due to a disease.

I recently purchased this on iOffer and uploaded it onto YouTube: http://youtu.be/1HoVwv_Qeo4

I think that once Sister Anthony got that offshoot growing from Tree, she may have decided to let Tree go. She had it's young to carry on Tree's line. While Tree didn't have many years left.

Seriously. What a fucking waste, carted off to the city only to indulge a passing fancy then go into the damn wood chipper. Fucked up. At least dying a natural death , which it may not even have done for freaking years to come, would have been a natural recycling and provide an ongoing environment for the flora and fauna.

Instead it's just city trash after a couple of weeks. This film is fucked up.
