So just how good is this movie?

This is the next one I have to watch. I've seen the first three, and loved them. So how good is this one? Whats your recomendatiosn for me? How is it compared to the others?

reply

though having what appears to be an unrelated plot The Gathering is quite possibly one of the best sequels. it's suspenseful. it has good acting. the story's interesting. all in all it's pretty dang good. it's up the there with parts 1 and 3. personally i didn't care for The final Sacrifice all that much. it was very hokey and felt like a b-movie at times. and even though it was basically a b-movie, none of the other ones really feel that way to me. but anyway, part 4 awesome. you should enjoy it a lot.

reply

Thats what I''ve heard. I heard from somewhere its the scariest one. I didnt like #2 as much as 1 and 3, but it was still pretty good. To be honest I thought 3 felt like the most b-Moviesh.

***MAY CONTAIN A FEW SPOILERS***

It's not the best and it's not the worst. This one is more like COTC the first film because the leader Jociah is like Isaac in some ways. And not being mean Wishmaster but just to point out it doesn't go back to the origins of HWWBTR it tells you what happens to Jociah that made HWWBTR possess him. Jociah was like Isaac because he was a boy preacher, but Jociah couldn't stay small forever and the preachers attempts don't work. So we learn how Jociah is able to return and collect the children. Not, how HWWBTR originated. We probably will never know that it's a story that as long as it's stays hidden gives the films a lot of their story. In COTC Sarah makes a comment to Job when he says, "I wish Isaac had never came here." Sarah replies," But, he's always been here just like He Who Walks Behind the Rows." So you see you never know where HWWBTR orginated just that he's been in Gatlin a l-o-o-o-o-o-n-n-g time. In COTC 2 we learn he was there when the Indians were but not how long he'd been there. So you see it's always going to be a mystery because that's what makes people wonder. Anyway back to the topic of this post. I didn't hate this film but I didn't think it did the series justice. I did LOVE the story of Jociah though. You may turn out to enjoy it but being a DIEHARD FANATIC of the series I can honestly say it's one of the worst but not the worst!!!

ONLY because like Micah Eli, Eezekiel, Gabereil, and Able HWWBTR POSSESSES HIS BODY!!!! He stared out being human just like all of the other kid leaders. Ex) When Eezekiel finds the green fire in the corn field and it jumps into his body, and when Micah gets possessed in the corn fields. That's how Jociah is HWWBTR he gets possessed by the deity like all the other leaders except Isaac! I'm not trying to be mean but that's the TRUTH! That's how Jociah is HWWBTR.

i don't care what any of you people say. the fact that the cut scene exists is truth. the fact that Dimension Films cut this scene from the movie is also fact. they chose NOT to include this bit of mythology into the series by the decision they made to REMOVE it. though the film-makers may have had that intent with their script and whatnot, the FACT remains that Jociah is a mystery by terms of the film itself. other than the corn backdrop and so on there really is NO connective tissue that this film shares with the rest of the series. HWWBTR is NEVER even mentioned. thus, it is unrelated in terms of story. period. and i have to add that the camp level of Part 5 and the pure low budget schlock value of Part 7 (deadly corn stalks in a bathtub?!?!) make them INFINITELY worse than this one. suspense-wise, i find The Gathering to be one of the more entertaining and scary of the entire franchise.

reply

You're right that they did cut the scene and it's mention cannot be ignored this is not disputed. I am one of the most if not the most knowledgeable on this whole series (I'm not bragging because I am not that sort of person). The only thing I was saying is that the only person that is NOT possessed by HWWBTR is Isaac. All the other leaders are including Jociah! He's not the deity himself he starts out as a regular kid then like all the others he is possessed when his soul is sold to the darkside. Also, if you will notice I too say it's one of the worst but not THE worst!!!! I am a fan of the whole series but I agree with you that Revelation (7) was the worst by far! The Gathering isn't as bad as others but I do put it in the category of the COTC films that need a better back story. That's all I wanted to get across I didn't want to make people mad at me or hate me I'm just trying to help some one who asked a question in their knowledge of the series because I value TRUE fans of the series and I defend my children (fans) and my rows (movies and cornfields) with an iron fist!

All of the kids who are possessed are HWWBTR because HWWBTR possesses their BODIES!!!!! Geez, does no one understand a WORD that I am writing. I am very knowledgeable about what I say and I am friends with Brandon Kleyla if you don't believe that see my post on the Is Anyone a COTC fanatic post! I've seen the interview and I'm sure if you ask Ryan Bollman, or Daniel Cernay and Paul Popowich if they were HWWBTR they'd tell you yes too because they were all possessed by the deity. It's kinda like the whole Voldemort possessing Prof. Qurrell in HP&TSS. HWWBTR can't have a body of his own so he has to possess the leaders. Man, can no one understand this. My goodness do I have to keep defending myself because no one is reading my stuff clearly? You're basically saying what I'm saying. Josiah would be HWWBTR if he was possessed by the deity because like all of the others HWWBTR would take over his body which means the deity would be INSIDE of his soul and body. The deity would be in control of the leader's actions and mind!!! Geez people please don't start this again. I've read the Brandon interview. I've seen the films enough times and studied them enough to pretty much know what I'm talking about don'tcha think????!!!! So STOP doing this stuff. Geez!

COTCgirl, so you're avid fangirlism somehow makes you qualified to tell us that Josiah is not HWBTR but is in fact possessed by him? Funny, you don't seem qualified to make that claim unless you're involvement with this franchise extends beyond an annoying rabid fan who won't shut up.

[All of the kids who are possessed are HWWBTR because HWWBT]

Then why weren't they called He who walks Behind the Rows too? Why is it that only he, out of all the possessed preachers is called He Who Walks Behind the Rows?

Listen annoying little fan person, if you are going to speculate do so, but don't shoot down other people's theories without something more concrete than rabid fanboysim

[You're basically saying what I'm saying. Josiah would be HWWBTR if he was possessed by the deity because like all of the others HWWBTR would take over his body which means the deity would be INSIDE of his soul and body.]

How could Josiah have been possessed if he was already dead? His soul had already been sold for etenral youth.

"Geez, does no one understand a WORD that I am writing."

Once you give me something more substantial than your word I will believe you.

reply

No, the kid even said that he didn't have much knowledge of the series before that and probably still doesn't. COTCgirl obviously does. I don't think the kid even understand that he was possessed by HWWBTR.

"The Gathering" was my favorite of the sequels.

My cousin is the blond girl on the front cover. She was the girl with the blond hair who was looking through the window when the black mother was being killed by the kid with the scythe.

Even though this post is old, I'll still say is my favorite of the sequels. I thought part 2 was okay, but more or less a letdown. I guess 3 was so-so.

Number ranks 5th in how I rate my series. Now, in defense of, COTCgirl, I know that she is a huge fan of these series. How do I know this? I asked her questions, and she answered them very well.

This IS the best of the sequels. I liked it that it was not set in Gatlin, I mean come on, after all the sh*t in the first 3, you think people would not want to live there. Naomi Watts of course, does a great job with the part she had, and the rest of the cast is well acted too exspecially Karen Black as the fruit-loop mother. Visually the movie perfoms well too. Most of the time the outside scenes are all bathed in a deep sunset and it relly makes you feel the eerie silence of being out in the country.

The gore is nice and lots of vicious Scythe kills. CHILDREN OF THE CORN 6 was ok, but even John Franklin's return couldn't save that one. Overall COTC IV is very underatted and has alot more going for it than most people give it credit for.

A very belated reply but I watched this the other night and in my opinion it is the best of the series with good special effects. The various children act impressively, especially young James, played by Mark Salling. I give episode no. IV 8 marks out of ten.

reply

I just watched this again for the first time in many years. It was a little better than I remembered, but I'm still not too crazy about it.

reply

It is alright. Not the best of the series but definitely not the worst either. I'd say it's worth a watch if you liked the other films.
