"Lame costumes"???

Were you watching Chain Reaction or the Wizard of Oz?

This was a modern movie based on relatively simple concepts, so "costumes" were non-existent. Lame acting? What do they have to do to get through to you, jump off the screen and smack you up-side the head? There was no bad acting in this movie. Lame story? Uum, alternate fuel source being suppressed by big business, etc. is pretty damn relevent and interesting to most people. Lame action? Yeah, those nuclear-like explosions and the racing to and from different objectives throughout the movie were really lame -- NOT!

This was a very good movie, not the best movie of all times, but very good. It does, however, require some real thinking, so I think that's why a lot of people gave it a low rating.

But, admit it -- if you didn't like this movie, it didn't have anything to do with bad costumes (LOL), acting, story, or action. It was just because you didn't like it and you are reaching for a reason why. Don't put down a movie just because you happened to dislike the base concepts.

What "lame costumes" are you talking about? Chain Reaction is hardly a Pirates of Penzance, or Les Mis or even West Side Story. The only "costumes" in this movie were the blue jeans and boots worn by Keanu and Rachel, and the armani suits worn by Morgan and Fred Ward. for pete's sake, or did I miss something? I think you'd like this movie if you gave it a chance. In that sense, CR is like a fine wine; it only gets better with age.

I'll admit that to criticise this movie for "lame costumes" IS a bit lame in itself, certainly an odd comment.

But the assertion that "CR is like fine wine, it only gets better with age" is equally lame; I watched it last night: It doesn't.

I thought it was rubbish.....yeah, I know, I am biased and I don't much care for Sci-Fi in general......but unlike Fine Wine, I certainly did not enjoy this dross.

The only thing which seemed remarkable about it was that Morgan Freeman consented to get involved.

Sorry: Big thumbs down.

Even though I haven't seen it, I must agree.

This is a pretty good movie. Keanu Reeves made it even better xP. I think it could have been better, but it has a good plot and all.

Well, it is a good movie, I don't think I'd call it THE BEST MOVIE, but I did enjoy it. BTW, Keanu Reeves was not outrunning the "nuclear" (it wasn't nuclear) explosion, it was gaining on him quite rapidly, which is why he dumped the bike and slid into the ditch. It was a large, flammable gas explosion, the kind that you get with the fertilizer bombs like the one used in Oklahoma City by McVeigh and John Doe No. 2.

Rachel Weisz is mega-cute as always and the movie had good action with some suspense that gave you a "go team" kind of feel, especially once the FBI starts to put two and two together. The environmental message is overused, (i.e.; the Saint, and other movies of the like) but that's Hollyweird for you.

All in all, an enjoyable, suspenseful movie.

Best movie? How is it posible?

When I saw it a long time ago with my friend, all agree that this is the worst movie we ever seen. Bad acting, silly story.

Every time we compare movies, and realize that one of them is horrielb we say: " at least it is better than Chain reaction".

WTF???????!!!!???? :O

has anyone ever read about how many THOUSANDS of inventors across the entire globe has been intimidated, kidnaped, offered money or killed in order to NOT make designs or devices that will allow society to have free energy or other breathrough inventions???

in what kind of brainwashed environment you grew up?????
READ SOME FKN HISTORY ABOUT NICOLA TESLA AND THE OTHER INVENTORS....NOW!!!

the big corporations do not want anyone to have free energy and will do ANYTHING in their power to have humanity buy fosil fuels and engines that destroy the environment for as long as they like!

they have financed entire wars during the past century and keep moving the strings behind organizations and even manipulate goverments.

this movie was 100% true to facts that happen every day,
that are common known secrets!

this movie, has hidden messages for those with an IQ to see what happens for so many decades right before your eyes!

I must agree with you on this one, every last word of your post is SO true. I fiurst saw this when it came out in theaters and I've had a passion for nuclear engineering anyway since I was a teenager... fusion specifically. So naturally I was blown away (no pun intended) by this movie. Granted, it ain't the most accurate science wise but the implications made in it are staggering.

Politics and I never mixed, which makes me wonder sometimes why I'm now working on my master's in NE in the first place. When (not if, but when) this power is finally controlled, who will control the controllers? Makes me dizzy just thinking about it. But oh well.

I ahve to say that when I saw this movie, I looked at my now-ex-wife and she just said, "y'know,m stan, you oughta get back in the game" or words to that effect. Quite possibly the only NICE thing she ever said to me. :D

reply

Not sure if these two are just taking the p1ss?

People are spending billions on getting nuclear fusion up and running - we already know it works and produces energy - see the ITER project. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITER)
Don't see any shady CIA people blowing up part of France any time soon... Then again I'll look silly if it goes up in smoke ;)

reply

Granted Rachel Weisz totally rocks but this is far from her best movie and she even said it was her own worst acting and least favorite movie of her career. I hvane't got a chance to see this movie yet so i have not opinion.

the orginal film should have been burned

Who the hell dislikes a movie for lame costumes?

reply

Lame Costumes? From What I remember of 96 that seems pretty standard... Boots? Hes a machinist! Do you want him wearing $100 shoes? Christ... West Side Story? Come on! Thats a Musical, of course these "street gangs" (in the 50s) are going to wear bright colors...

I bought and watch this movie based on the fact it was shot in Wisconsin... and I thought it was worth the money. This film may have been a victim of coming out about 7 years too soon.

********* semi-spoilers ************

This is what I call a perfect "popcorn movie"; it simply is perfect — in every way — for escapist entertainment. The tension builds and builds, there is romance; a wrongly accused man (and woman) and the perfect bad guy... the government.

There are few other movies like this, the prerequisites include:

1. No subject matter that will cause you any pain, or call into question your values or morality compass.
2. Deft tension building that continues almost until the very last minute.
3. Likable characters that you can cheer for. If there are two of them and they fall in love, that's a bonus.
4. Hate-worthy cop characters that must eat crow at the end of the movie. (Optional)
5. One smart, dogged investigator that figures out the truth and begins to like the main character. (Optional, this may be merged into the main character)
6. Super-mega bad guy that gets foisted on his own petard in the end.
7. Lots of chasing and running, by all modes of transport, with harrowing escapes along the way.

Movies that fill this bill?

1. The Fugitive.
2. The Hunt For Red October
3. Chain Reaction
4. The Russia House (only a partial choice)
5. Raiders of the Lost Ark
6. Goonies (ok, maybe it doesn't follow the formula exactly, but it is a classic in most other aspects).
7. The Bourne Identity

Agree? Disagree? Any others?

The "best movie of all time"???? You have to be kidding!!!! Is your IQ larger than your bust size? You are the reason we need more chlorine in the gene pool. Keep your idiot opinions to yourself. This movie wastes the talents of Reeves and Freeman and Weisz. You need to realize your taste is all in your mouth. Try taking a History of American Film course or some other course on Great Cinema and you will realize just how silly your comments are. What does it take to get you idiots to shut up!!!!

"You are the reason we need more chlorine in the gene pool." Better line than any delivered in this film!

but jolo....weiszz would probably have "confessed" that...cos she's absolutely *beep* in it...i can't think of a performance of hers i've seen which is worse

for a while i was thinking that maybe she appeared SO bad cos there was either gonna be a twist...where it turned out that she was playing keanu..and thus acting within the acting...as in her character was acting dumb and anything unlike a "terrorist" or bad girl...whatever.....or that she was acting like that as a cold turkey....just as fred ward appeared a bit bad and suspicious early on....

but once i got to the end of the movie....i only really have one conclusion....EVEN if she had in mind to some extent the idea that she was acting as a cold turkey....she was completely and utterly: useless. and in essence: crap.

as for the movie...it's really not THAT bad as so many people like to say....there are movies which people simply jump at....or jump on a bandwagon....to slate...and really really enjoy not liking it (for whatever bizarre reason)...this movie has a bunch of good things about it....some really good action and explosions....morgan freeman is great....and at the end of the day...it's a fun ride....if u watch it in the right way..and at the right kinda time...and in the right spirit.....it's an enjoyable action thriller...don't take it so seriously.

(i have actually avoided this movie for years cos of the bad things i heard about it and thinking it was gonna be crap....glad i did in fact see it at the end....cos i ended up enjoyin it.)

reply

Yeah. Every second movie is the BEST, and every other second movie is the WORST... Almost perfect math.
At least if we would listen to IMDB board :-)

reply

well the movie aint 'super super great' like the op seems to think it is, BUT i do think it's much better than it's current average rating (5.2/10) shows it is.

i give it a 7/10
