Don't you think it would have been better if Damon Wayans played for the Lakers or the Knicks instead of Utah? I didn't see the point to that.

Because the Lakers and Celtics have a history of constant battles throughout the years. Not Utah? And the colors of the jerseys were the same as the Lakers. So that's basically why I felt that way.

I agree it should have been Lakers/Celtics.

I always thought the same thing, it would've made so much more sense if it were Lakers/Celtics.

I mean I know it's only fiction and a lot of sports movies don't take after real life, but it was kinda strange to write up a Celtics/Jazz concept during the Bulls dynasty.

But again, it's only fiction. Otherwise, the Major League movies would've had the Indians in a pennant race with the Oakland Athletics or some *beep*

Well it can't be Bulls or Knicks because there both east coast teams like the Celtics.
While Lakers and Celtics do have a rivalry it seems a little cliche to me.

I'd guess that they tried to get the Lakers to be used in the movie but they wouldn't give the producers the image rights to use their team logo and jerseys. If you notice the Jazz jersey in this film it's near identical to the one the Lakers use and I think that was the general idea, to still kinda give the impression that they were the Lakers (or like the Lakers, assuming their rivalry with the Celtics), as a sort of substitute.
