Good Movie

I loved the characters and the way the actors portrayed them. Edward James OLmos, Maria Conchita Alonso and Arie Vereen are great. Also Steven Schub who plays their loser son who is an obvious hustler. That "audition" tape was phony. The viewer knows he is a liar and has never met Jay Leno or David Letterman.

Great movie. I enjoyed every moment of it. Not condoning adultery though. That is wrong and she was wrong.

I loved it I almost had a good cry. I loved Edward James Olmost, I hated the ending. but I would recoumed it to my friends. The sex senes were something else. The son was a creep.

Yes Nick leaving with Amy would have been a great ending.

Nick leaving with Amy would have brought his character into question. Not that it already wasn't. I don't get how you people overlook his flaws. He seemed very casual about what was going on and what was his motivation? Love? I didn't see it. She(Maria Conchita Alonzo) obviously loved him but I didn't get the feeling he loved her. So how was he such a great character? Maybe the sleazy son "Danny" was right that Nick was only getting off on the gambling aspect.

Danny was a horrible character, by the way. That actor(Steven Schub) could ruin any movie, I swear.

I see Stupid People...

I think it ended just fine. Nick got what he deserved. My only regret is that Betty didn't die at the end too.

I have never seen this movie and don't have the capabilities to do so...how does the movie end? who dies? how does Joe learn of the affair? what's his reaction?

reply

If I remember correctly, it ends with Joe selling his shop and wanting to buy a boat so he can retire and go fishing with Betty, but of course, she doesn't want to do that. She and Nick want to run away together and take some of the money with them. Joe finds out about the affair from their son and he confronts them about it. They admit they're in love and they didn't mean for it to happen, but they want to leave together. Not surprisingly, Joe is furious and tries to first strangle Betty and then beats up Nick. The strain of the whole confrontation gives Joe a heart attack and he dies instantly. Her and Nick are both sobbing hysterically out of guilt.

Later, Nick is alone on the street thinking about Joe and is heartsick about how much this man treated him almost like a son, and he did nothing but betray him. Then, to pour the guilt on even thicker, the son walks up to him and tries to give him his father's favorite knife that he use to gut and fillet fish with and told him that he might as well take it because he'd taken everything else from him and his father(i.e., Amy, Betty, his father's love and trust, etc.). Nick says he doesn't want it and begins to walk off, but before he could, the son slits Nick's throat and leaves him to die on the street.

Fast forward a few months later, Betty has gone on to be a rich widow wearing a red wig, sipping champagne on a luxury yacht but not looking too happy about it. The end.

That's pretty much the jest of it.

thank you for the information. Still sounds like it would be worth checking out someday if I ever get the chance.

From what I saw in a few clips, I was floored by Steven Schaub (sp?)...why is it that some of the best actors seem to fly under the radar?

reply

I do feel sorry for the husband who is a good man. His wife's portrayal was wrong. Their son again was a total loser.

Great summary BTW, MChantal.I saw Caught several times. Haven't seen it in a little while, but it's a really good movie.

I agree wiht your view of the film. I thought it was excellent, and the three lead actors/actresses- Edward James Olmos, Maria Conchita Alonso, and the actor who played Maria'a young lover all did a fine job is this very humanistic film.

Maria Alonso is one of my favorite actresses; I loved her in "Colors" also. I recall asking a senior offical from the government of her home country about her, including why she wasn't more successful as an actress. He said she had substantial drub abuse problems.

It was a very sexy film also. I liked the way, Maria jumped a little jump step to impale herself on your young lover's stick when they first became lovers, and also when he went down on her while she whined wiht pleasure.

To pay the guy $80/week, even when he was boarding in their house- Maria's husband, Edward james Olmos, was cheap. Well, at least her yougn lover could have eaten very healthfully, getting different choices of fish every night. Although his favorite food was Edward's wife.
