I think the Scottish accent is easy enough to understand, once you get used to it. The first few times I heard Robert Carlyle speaking in interviews I found it really hard to understand what he was saying (before that I'd mainly seen him in movies such as "The Full Monty" and "The 51rst State" where he does a British accent, as well as "Once Upon A Time" where he tones down his accent noticably), but after listening to him for a little while, it wasn't so difficult anymore.
Now I can watch Scottish movies (as long as they don't speak Gaelic, of course) without subtitles as well. Even if English isn't my first language. So for me it was just a question of really listening.
