I know that Jim Carrey is supposed to be the funny one or the star or whatever but in this scene Matthew Broderick was awesome. His facial expressions and reactions to everything going on were perfect and hilarious.
It wasn't me who was murdered, was it?
Actually, Broderick is just spot-on through this entire film, now that I think of it. Even tiny things like how he kinda shakes his head when the preview for Brother Sweet Brother comes on and his facial expression when he sees the Bathroom Beating story on the news...HAHAHA!!

His reactions to Carrey picking the spot where the cable goes in a disturbingly sexual way make the scene funny. Without Broderick's reactions, Carrey would be just mugging and creepy.
I've maintained for years that the straight man is what makes comedy duos *really* funny. Think about Holy Grail: would we find the socialist peasant as funny if Arthur wasn't played totally straight by Chapman? Nope.
that was a low point of the movie i thought, its so obscene and i don't see why they most always got to go there these days, it can so easily become awkward to watch in the way they're not holding anything back anymore, i used to tune into tcm (turner classic movies) whenever i had company over to avoid any embarrassment, but then they started airing modern movies before shutting down the channel in the part of the world where i live. some of my favorite scenes in this was the odd company that the cable guy had managed to have picked up over the years as they were attending a party, and the way he constantly quotes lines from different movies, also when he won't admit having an obvious speech problem, well all around he's kind of a riot on his own no matter the quality of the movie, which i'm not sure if its suppose to have a serious side to it or not, and the main role, who were intended to be a victim of this cable guy, was kind of a dick and hard to take sides with. come to think of it, without the right casting this might have been an awful movie but under the circumstances becomes a real treat to watch.
