Dinner at Steve's Parents

when Chip showed up. Steve had just gotten out of jail due to Chip's the cable guy's machinations with the stolen hi-fi gear. So why was everyone taking the nut's side when he was the reason Steve went to jail?
Also, don't satellite dish's have drains for rain water?

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

I think it's in part due to their oblivious nature, and the manipulative nature of Chip. I mean c'mon...they played a game called porno password with the guy. I've probably watched this movie 50+ times and I've realized that you can try to analyze it all you'd like, but it just is what it is.

His family's terrible people, and Steven became the way he was due to them. His dad was a real dick and he and Steven feuded. His mom was like Robin in terms of being naive and easily brainwashed. Really Steven was re-doing the cycle with him and Robin.

Chip interfered because he wanted to mind eff with Steven and say in his own way "you can't get rid of me, I'm here forever."

Excellent points. It was a bit over-the-top to have chip whisper something to Steven, obviously it's something that Steven reacts to in a serious nature by hitting him, and the family just rushes to chips aid without even wondering what was said that would make their own family member react that way?

They were all sitting there, they could see that chip was talking to him, it's clear something was said and even if they didn't know what it was, they had to know that it was something to make Steven react that way.
