What's wrong with people? I've read from other posts that you have to be older to understand and enjoy this movie, but me and my sister loved it when we were 13 and 15, absolutely hilarious. I don't think people appreciate the subtlety that Carrey puts into his performance, every muscle tick is comedic genius.

shareI think it's a great comedy and is much more intelligent than people give it credit for. It deserves a higher rating, though I'm not surprised by it's lower rating due to the reaction it originally had. Then again, it's reputation has picked up in recent years and the rating has increased a bit since the earlier days of IMDB.

Agree. According to the trivia pg. the so-called Carrey fans wanted his wild and crazy guy humor not the darker, demonic Carrey. Btw, he made 20M for this movie and even though it wasn't as successful as his previous films it still made 100M+. Has anyone mentioned his "Somebody To Love" performance. Youtube loves it! Like so many of his roles you cannot think of anyone else but him doing them. Farley, Sandler? No way. His versatility and physical manifestations were untouched in his early days.
shareThere's some people today that still don't "get it", and others just don't care for it. It's a love or hate movie. As for me, I've always appreciated it. I thoroughly enjoy its quirky offerings, admire its dark tone and the social satire, and Carrey's wild performance is hilarious in an understated way. I like it.
