Not that bad for an 80s movie

The problem being, of course, that it was made in 1996.

I had no idea they were still making garbage like this in the mid-nineties.

"I'm about to set off a nuclear bomb. But tell you what -- we can box for it!"

Paraphrasing of course.

What a disaster.

Not necessarily, the year after the movie released an A-10 Thunderbolt aircraft carrying conventional weapons went missing and was recovered only many weeks later. The pilot, Capt. Craig Button of the USAF, was found dead but only many weeks later.

The plane had veered of course while on a training flight and flew for hundreds of miles for no apparent reason before crashing.

The ordnance although carried by the plane was never found. No complete explanation was given to suggest exactly what had caused to pilot to veer off by 800 miles and why the plane had then crashed.

Holy shyt. This has to be the best 'bad acting' movie I've ever seen. God that "buddy" scene had me in tears. And to think as a 13 yr old when it came out, I thought Travolta was the coolest guy alive on the face of the earth. I have no idea how many times I've tried practising"Aint it cool?" and "Dont Panic, Bulletproof Glass" in front of my bathroom mirror.

Hey, I thought you had her at 'Squishy Ball'

reply

Yeah travolta was a really really cool bad guy.. so many great moments and i really did believe that his mind had "taken a walk off the map" lol

what do you mean garbage? this movie kicked ass, and is better than the CGI crap nowadays.

Exactly. No better example of a current-day CGI crap-fest billed as an "action" movie than "Crank". WORST. MOVIE. EVER.

It's big, it's loud, it's dumb, and guess what? It doesn't pretend to be anything else, and is great fun to watch. Beautifully choreographed, stylishly shot, it's the perfect example of Woo in excelsis.
It sure beats the hell out of MI:2...now, THAT was pants!

reply

What are you talking about? Crank had basically NO CGI except for all of those heart shots.

Creasey's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece.

This had the feel of a generic 80's or really early 90's movie. But I thought it was a good action thriller. It's one of those movies that doesn't really try to have a theme or gimmick, it's just a plain old action thriller. Those movies don't seem to exist anymore. As for the boxing match it made sense considering that Deakin was a total wackjob. Cliffhanger is similar. It's one of those generic action thrillers, it does have a theme/gimmick, but still falls into the generic action thriller category. All these movies are essentially like the first three Die Hard films except these ones lack the unique character chemistry, plot and timelessness of the Die Hard series.

Garbage? What do you expect from an action flick? I bet you're the type who really enjoyed Bay's Transformers. Let's see you write or even direct a film that comes even close to the quality of Broken Arrow. Those without talent can, and always will, criticize those who do.

I said, goddamn, what a rush!

reply

I waited for the credits to see the Cannon Films and Golan Globus logos, but alas...

I say do a remake with Martin Kove and Steve Segal. They're both still good actors.

reply

This was a greatly entertaining action movie! Who cares if it's slightly exaggerated? That's the point of an action movie! Would you really prefer it to be slightly more realistic so you can pretend it's not fake or something?!

And the boxing was a great way to end it considering they were boxing at the start and Travolta had always beat the guy.

reply

Action movies like this aren't as popular now, but I still love them. This was so much better than most Seagal movies that follow this sort of plot. Agree that its so much better with less CGI and proper special effects. The guy that played Travolta's henchman did his own stunt when he got thrown back off the train and fell a very great height.

Action movies peaked in the 90s! The only pure action movies I've really loved in this decade are District 13, Taken and Death race. The first two are even by the same director. Just too much of this "family blockbuster" action or CGI crap now.

And you prefer garbage like Max Payne and AVP?coward

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you but invariably ANY chick who is in those explicit sex scenes in a Golan/Globus film ends up dead-usually in a most unpleasant way...

'the boxing was a great way to end it considering they were boxing at the start and Travolta had always beat the guy'

That's exactly why it was a terrible way to end the film, as soon as the film started I knew that that was how the movie was going to end.
