Movie Connections, BBC1 Mon 22 Oct 22:35 - 23:15

This should make interesting viewing for fans of UK movies:

"The challenge facing director Steve Abbott and writer Mark Herman when they started making Brassed Off in 1995 was how to sell a story about pit closures and the destruction of a community, set against a background of a British brass band competition to a worldwide audience? Pete Postlethwaite, Stephen Tompkinson, Melanie Hill, Philip Jackson and Peter Martin join the director and producer in recalling Brassed Off's journey from script to screen."

An excellent programme, which gave a lot of background insight into the film. Several of the actors consider it to be their best work.

I agree an excellent programme with some good insights into the making of this fine film.

I thought the folk who live in the USA would struggle to interpret the film, but the theme was universal, that of community support, family and companionship, helping one another to overcome hardship.

When it was mentioned that it was still showing in the cinema 6 months after release I think that was the Rex in Elland near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

This has been an outstanding series so far.

Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels and Bend it Like Beckham were both interesting!

I wonder which one they meant, I know the Showcase in Birstall, West Yorkshire took the most revenue in the UK for the film, hence the trophy the Band wins is now held in the Cinema.

Thanks for that, i'll go and view it.
