All time fave

Is there ANYONE out there who, like me, regards this as their favourite film of all time?

reply

I agree with you loz-1

Really loz-1?

Yes loz-1, I do.

I can't say that I have an all-time favorite, but this is definitely one of my favorites. I'm with BartenderAmber, the bus scene at the end was great. Ewan McGregor and Pete Postlethwaite are outstanding as usual. Did we expect anything less from them?

I can't assuredly say the film was my all-time fave overall, but the sound track I think is my all-timer. So incredibly rich, so gloriously performed, so well integrated with the action (especially where the semi-finals are juxtaposed with the closure), it's a thrill, from beginning to end.

put it this way, I am in 3 bands.

thats a lot of musicians. and i don't know a single person amongst them that doesn't call Concerto De Aranjuez 'Concerto De Orange Juice',

and I hear 'it's a bloody euphonium' in a yorkshire accent at least once a week.

:)

reply

Excellent!!!

That Concerto is one of the most beautiful pieces every written. I love this movie, always have, always will.

'it's a bloody euphonium'

Lol. I'm always saying that!!!! Why do people think it's a trumpet!? What do you play faded_english_monkey?

I just watched Brassed Off for the first time just then and LOVED it!!
I have many all time favorites, and B.O. is another one to add to the list. It was such a great movie, especially all the brass instruments. I love playing in bands and when you play in a band that sounds as good as the one in the movie it feels GREAT. But I wish my instruments were as easy to carry around as the flugel or baritones, I play the bloody sousaphone.......and bass trombone, which is definatly my favorite.

i agree! brasse off is such a good film. It is funny, has a good Soundtrack, has a believeable plot, has a happy ending and even has ewan mcgregor in it! what more could you want it is a truly amazing film!

reply

A happy ending? Have you actually watched it? What happy ending? OK they won the competition. I think they would rather have their entire community, industry and way of life restored to them. This is not a comedy.

reply

"Brassed Off" is definitely one of my favourite movies.
It certainly is not the romantic comedy it is advertised.
It has a lot of hilarious moments, though, and I think the love story was well embedded in the plot.

When I saw this I was still pretty young and naive so took the story and morals right in without question. I WOULD say it is my favourite film as I got so much from it at the time. I doubt if I saw it now (at the age of 27) it would have quite the same effect on me though.

I LOVE Brassed off. I got it free in a newspaper and watched it when I was bored but I now never tire of watching it. It's amazing. It makes me cry at the bit where they play danny boy (or the derry air- whatever its called). i'm balling my eyes out every time.

One thing always annoys me is that andy and gloria's relationship isn't very romantic. It's funny like. When he says "I'll go posh if you want" or the bit about the coffee.

I've got a bit of a thing for mining strike films even though i'm an irish teenager. But then again, we hate Maggie Tatcher too!

I think it's a class movie and everyone should at least give it a try!

reply

Yes me. The acting is second to none with a superb cast and brilliant script.
In my mind the most moving part is when Stephen Tompkinson is talking to the young children in church when he loses it big time and rants on about "what god? A god that can take John Lennon, 3 lads down pit and who is even thinking about taking my dad? When Margaret bloody Thatcher lives!" I choke every time!

reply

If not favorite pretty darn close. I just finished watching it for the first time. It made me laugh and cry. There was more than one great performance. I thought Pete Postelwaithe (spelled correctly?) and Stephen Tompkinson both deserved an Oscar (or Bafta) award for their performances. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone.

reply

Never seen this movie, but now I feel honored to be a part of Loz's older post!
