How Does It Compare To Wes Anderson's Other Work?

I already own Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou on DVD. All three are magnificent films in my opinion. Does Bottle Rocket match up?

It's not quite up to the standards of the other three, but it's still amazing and better than most films out there. I agree with the above poster; Dignan is a great character.

It's my second favorite as well, behind Rushmore

It's actually my favorite. Definitely the funniest. I struggled with the idea of letting myself like it more than TRT and TDL but I finally did. I love this movie.

It's better than TLA. It's just funnier and has more emotional weight. The dialogue has more in common with TRT. Visually Wes is alot more careful and it has fewer of his trademark shots.

I'd probably tie it with Rushmore but it's very different. TRT is my absolute favorite though.

It's his best. I like both Rushmore and The Tenenbaums but both stall a bit in the second act. This is the PERFECT first feature, always moving forward. Act one set up, Act two love story, Act three the Mr. Henry heist with it's wonderful conclusion. Rushmore and Tenenbaums play all their cards in the first act. Because of this they spin their wheels a bit. Bottle Rocket is one of the best comedic scripts of all time. Up there with Woody Allen's best.

i found it more outright funny, but his 2nd best behind the life aquatic and barely ahead of the royal tenenbaums which definitly has a more serious undertone.

I think its probably his best. I like all of his films but as they get on they seem to become more pretentious and less funny

Definitely his funniest, and as I look at it in retrospect, probably my favorite of his. This or The Royal Tenenbaums, for very different reasons. Sure, Bottle Rocket does suffer from some of the flaws directors' first works tend to, but overall it's a really fun and enjoyable film that's not weighted down by the self-aware dialogue and overdone scenery of his later movies.

Bottle Rocket absolutely stands up to his other films. I think it shows a raw version of Wes Anderson before he started making really stylized films. The three Wilson brothers are fabulous in it...plus I really like the love story between Anthony and Inez. Wes Anderson has that love story aspect in all of his films, and it's definitely the best one. It's just a moving encounter, and the dialogue in the movie is great. hahaha plus...who doesn't love Dignan?

Good things.

The Life Aquatic>Bottle Rocket>The Royal Tenenbaums>Rushmore>Darjeeling Limited... my opinion...

Bottle Rocket is most definitely the most 'real world set' of his catalogue. Dignan & Anthony are especially written to Wes' type, surrounded by a normal universe, which actually makes many of its jokes & one liners stand out more than the rest of his films.

It's probably the most 'charming'(?) of them all too, really harmless stuff & nothing too heavy or deep going on... it's a fun excursion.

I just watched the first half of Bottle Rocket (DVDr had some problems so making a new one), it's quite smart and interesting, probably 6-7/10 so far. I saw the Tenenbaums yesterday, it's one of the crappiest movies I've seen and highly overrated (I gave it 3-4/10). I look forward to Rushmore as I heard it's even better than Bottle Rocket.
