Roger Ebert's review

Does any one know what Ebert gave this movie? His review is not on the web site.

He hated it. Siskel claimed it was the first movie he's walked out on in 27 years. This was from their tv show.

I mean, what star rating?

I would guess 1 or 1/2 star. They both gave it thumbs down?

reply

And yet, Ebert gave "Beavis & Butthead Do America" a total of three stars.

Go figger.

"Figger" what, exactly? B&BDA is a great film...

I never said that, nor did anyone else.

Comedy is about the most subjective thing ever, making a comedy -- for people who actually care about the opinions of others -- is perhaps the most difficult thing you can do. I mean, with horror movies; some people find black cats creepy, some people find cats creepy, but you can still build an atmosphere and have music that projects an overall tone of dread, regardless if the actual subject matter is "creepy".

On the other hand, comedy is ALL ABOUT the subject matter. So if you don't find something funny, you'll probably dislike the film.

Ebert finds Beavis and Butthead funnier than this film. I also do. That doesn't mean I don't find both films ENTERTAINING, which ultimately is what >I< rate on.

But to answer your reply... everyone's opinion matters as much as anyone else's, which isn't much, since everyone has an opinion.

Of course Gene Siskel didn't find Chris Farley funny, and we all know he's in the minority with that.

reply

Probably 1/2 star. Tommy Boy got 1 and that is on his website. I'd love to see his print review for it.

reply

It was one of only three he walked out on in his entire career.

reply

This movie was bad, but it wasnt THAT bad. He must not have watched many movies in his entire career if he walked out of this. And yes i know who he is, but to walk out of it has to either be a stand up for something or a screw up. I could list at least 10 objectively worse films out of top of my head.
