TWO Dubbed English versions

Hi,

I'm a huge fan of this movie - but I saw it initially with English dubbing. Not the CRAP English version where he is called "Michael" and everyone has English names.

The version I'm talking about is not on the DVD - I saw it on VHS in Canada.

He has his normal name "Tsui Chik" and every time Francine Yip remembers him saving her a western type jingle is played. Other music is substituted as well, making for a much richer experience. The voice over is much more sophisticated explaining his cop buddies anger at his pacifist posturing.

It was just much better for an english speaker, anyway.

Anyone know anything about this??

I don't know, but its probably the English dub for the uncut Hong Kong version (still shorter than the Taiwan version, however), where the OST is left intact. The crappy hip-hop version is the Artisan version, and the worst version in my opinion. you can search for the Hong Kong DVD either subbed or dubbed (the Taiwan version is also subbed). Just make sure it doesn't say artisan in the DVD's info.

BTW I also heard that the longest version is a theatrical version that was publicly screened in some city (I don't remember whether it was in Hong Kong, Taiwan or New York, I only know its extremely hard to find).

The version you describe on Canadian VHS with Jet Li named "Tsui Chik" is the version I have, I haven't seen the version with his name as "Michael" but perhaps this is the widespread NTSC DVD version as well as US VHS?

Since I haven't seen this "Michael" version (I've only seen my VHS version), I don't know how the dubs sound but the version I have has all English dub voices done with actors from England, so when I say they all have "English accents" I mean they are from England. I'm assuming this "Michael" version has "American accents" for the dubs?

The Canadian version done with the "English accents" is friggin' awesome!! Though I really want to see (and prefer) original language versions with English subtitles.
