Is Stanley Tucci one of the most under rated actors of all time ?

Every role I have seen Tucci in he has been excellent. And I always wish he had more scenes. Wish he would be given more prominent roles. I see no reason why he was never given breaks like Deniro got and let headline a major movie. I think he has that type of talent.

I agree 100%. He's been one of my favorite actors since I saw him on Wiseguy

I haven't seen The Big Night yet, but yes, Tucci has been great in every movie I've ever seen him in. Can't wait to see this one.

This is his baby. He directed and wrote the film also.

He is one of the best character actors of his time. The Lee J cobb of his era.

Cannot believe he did not get a supporting nomination for Spotlight.

YES.

STILL YES.

I totally agree. I first remember him as Rick Pinzollo (sp?) on Wiseguy and Big Night is one of my favorite films. Now we can see the “real” him every Sunday evening on Searching For Italy, on CNN. It is a great culinary and cultural journey!!

I would have to see more of his work. I like Tucci a lot and just fine, but there's a little bit of hamminess that comes through, IMO. A little bit of a caricature of the part he is playing, for comic effect. I realize one has to have a reason to watch someone on screen, they can't simply be natural and normal. But I imagine a lot of people don't think Robert Redford is a good actor but I like how relaxed and comfortable he always seems to be in his roles, whereas with Tucci I can sort of see the effort. YMMV.

I think that there is a reason for this. He is a wonderful actor, even though he does not have "movie star" looks (whatever that is supposed to be). But, I think that Tucci is a very intelligent actor. He knows that as a character actor, he can get more work and ply his trade longer, as he has done superbly. He can play anything, from a sympathetic gay man to a devious serial killer, and do it brilliantly. Character actors get more work than headliners. Another case in point - Gene Hackman. Hackman always said that he was a character actor and was very comfortable as one. But, of course Hackman was such a force of nature in his films that he could play the lead convincingly. As could Tucci
