Why is the DVD long out of print?

This is a well-written, well-acted, funny, charming poignant, moving, endlessly rewatchable, all-around brilliant film with a stellar and bankable cast. It's also one of the best foodie movies of all time. It put Tucci and Shalhoub on the mental map for lots of people, and both have gone on to greater fame since. But the DVD has been out of print for many years. Does anyone know why?
