The original play is now being revived in London

The film whatever you may take from it is pretty perfect. In a recent interview JH acknowledge it is now a museum piece with references and in today world in the UK the expereinces would be slightly different and the internet / phones change everything. I don't think a remake would add anything.
However the play revival (2013) is awsome with a fantastic cast. I didn't think I could enjoy a different mother, jamie and ste but the cast were amazing.

It's a very different time now. The characters would have access to the Internet, apps like Grindr and living in London, they would not, imo, feel so isolated as they did back in 1996 when the Internet was first taking off and not all households had it.

Jonathan Harvey wrote a sequel in 1999 called "The Avalon" that never got funding, he's mentioned interest in doing a modern catch-up with Jamie and Ste and seeing where there story is 20 years later but that would require Glen on board and he's expressed little interest in acting again. perhaps maybe if Jonathan finishes a great script it will change his mind

I think sequels are always much more interesting than reboots

those are for people with no ideas left in their heads

There doesn't need to be a remake. The original is perfect. God forbid if a film made 20 years ago looks a bit dated today. Why do people need everything bang up to date? The story is still timeless and universal.
