why wasnt the director arrested?

For soliciting sex acts between a minor and a grown up actor...What law protected the director from putting a child in this position. You say its acting or its fake..Whats fake about simulating rape on a real child. You people need help if you think this is ok. You want to portray something but you dont have to put an underage girl in this situation.

I read a comment by one poster that said "measures were taken to safeguard Jena Malones mental health" I guess he was speaking from experience or he knows her mengtal state. You cant be making films and putting minors in these kind of scenes........

How did this guy not get in trouble? Go on reply and give an essay about how child abuse is not potrayed well enough in modern cinema...joke

Because that didn't happen. No sex acts were solicited from anyone. It is called acting. This movie isn't porn.

Are you against children being murdered in movies as well? Do you hate Sophie's Choice and Sometimes in April because they show a LOT of kids getting killed. If you are saying children shouldn't be raped in film then why should they also be murdered in film? I have never seen anyone complain about a child being supposedly traumatized by being simulated murdered in film.

Jena Malone is now an adult and is doing fine. She is a smart woman who knows her own mind better than anyone. Malone has talked about her experience of this movie ad nauseum thanks to people like you interviewing her to death. Dakota Fanning, Jodie Foster, Rosario Dawson, and Brooke Shields are perfectly fine too. If anything they ended up better off than Lindsay Lohan, Drew Berrymore, Danny Bonaduce, the ENTIRE child cast of Diff'rent Strokes, or most recently Jamie Waylett from Harry Potter even though they were just in cutsey, family roles.

Well, first of all the director was a she, not a he - Anjelica Huston.

In fact this whole production was very female driven. A woman wrote the book, another wrote the screen play and the producer and the editor both were women too.

The actors knew they were playing a part. The young actors included. I remember hearing that they made sure that the bodies of Jena Malone and Ron Eldard never touched directly while filming most of the more graphic scenes. They would have some sort of padding between them. All in all, not everything about life is pleasant. This is a drama about some of those not so pleasant things. It was truthfully and realistically portrayed and while you (and others) may not be comfortable watching it, you can learn to be a grown up and deal with it or make the choice about what you care to view on television. We all have the right to do that. If this was too graphic for you, then there's nothing wrong with that. It's difficult to watch, but it's make believe. I'm sure this movie would have never gotten made, let alone greenlighted for broadcast if anyone thought the director was sick for putting those portrayals on film.

reply

They did use padding, and several interviews covered how Ron Eldard and Jena Malone also discussed each scene thoroughly before it was filmed to make sure she was OK. Her welfare was his main concern throughout the movie and he refused to do anything until she was comfortable with it. They made the viewers truly hate Glenn as they should, but in reality Ron and Jena became good friends while this movie was being filmed.

reply

I have always respected him for his concern over her and how she was handling the filming. He made me hate his character and yet I like him as an actor(Mickey Fartpants).

Granted the OP doesn't have a clue on what they were talking about but I think the movie did it's job. It was supposed to horrify u and disgust u and it did. The sequence in the car between Ruthann and Glen is easily one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen. I'm guessing there was some sort of padding between the two but they're both such good actors it looked realistic. Eldard was verbally assaulted by a woman after this movie played on Showtime. She called him every name in the book. He stood there calmly not responding. She ended with saying, "How can you DO that to a child." He smiled and said, "It's called ACTING lady. Deal with it!" Then he walked away.

reply

Yeah I've heard all kinds of stories about actors being verbally assaulted for their roles. Especially soap opera actors. Wow, people are just freakin' crazy. They are actors playing a part. It's not real. They aren't those characters they are portraying.
This was a really good movie and yes it was graphic and disturbing. It was hard for me to see Ron Eldard playing such a bad guy. He's so the opposite of that on ER. He's a good actor. I've seen him in a few other roles including the role of a Gulf war vet in Justified. He's good in that too.
Has anyone read the book to this movie? I'm interested in reading it.

reply

Wow.. you must have just finished watching this movie and wanted to take your anger and frustration out on the director. Jena Malone was never raped by this man, they were never in contact with eachother sexually...ever! She also was a minor and had permission from her parents to participate in the film.

"..Whats fake about simulating rape on a real child"

Simulated means fake. That's what it means. So yeah, what's fake about simulating rape on a real child is that it's simulated, and therefore fake. so the answer to your question is, Everything. Everything is fake. All fake. Fakey McFakerson with Fake sauce. Fake o'Clock. Fake-a-rama. Fake.

reply

you're an idiot

reply

They rehearsed those scenes between the 2 actors. It was all simulated. The little girl said in an interview when this came out that she was making it seem like he was throwing her around, but wasn't..It's just a movie and if those scenes made you uncomfortable and angry, then that was the whole point, wasn't it? That's what the director wanted you to feel..It was hard to watch, but that's what makes good film making...

reply

But the kissing was real though!!!! That wasn't simulating!!! He was also stroking her hair in a sexual way before he raped her though! I'm a mother of a young daughter and no way would I ever have doing anything like this in a movie! I don't care how much money she made!!! No way!!! You obviously don't have daughters! You wouldn't be chatting pure fart!!!

reply

as always it's the moms complaining and i'm a female saying this....

reply

Ignore what I said before. There was no simulation! He was really molesting the child and he was really raping her and he was really kissing her. In Hollywood they are corrupt and perverted! Everything that happened in the movie was real! You actually trust what people say from Hollywood??? I suggest you all do your research in MK Ultra Mind Control in Hollywood. Then you will understand what I'm talking about!

reply

You need to be removed.

reply

No he wasn't really raping her
