David Bowie

David Bowie should have gotten an Oscar nomination for this film. Who knew he could actually act? And he doesn't just act, he literally channels Andy Warhol. I've seen Andy portrayed by several actors over the years, namely Jared Harris in "I Shot Andy Warhol" and Crispin Glover in "The Doors". But Bowie got Andy spot on, his voice, his mannerisms, his eccentricity. Of course it helped that Bowie actually knew Andy personally. The wig he wore in the film was actually one of Andy's real wigs that he had given David. Jeffrey Wright was also incredible as Jean Michel Basquiat, but it's David Bowie that steals the film.

Bowie was a great actor and the role in "Basquiat" was one of his finest, right there with "The Man Who Fell To Earth", "The Hunger" and "Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence". I've read that he was also tremendous in theatrical version of "The Elephant Man" in early 80s.
