Whats with all the bad reviews and hate??

The werewolf rules, the acting isn't bad at all, its a great plot/fun movie plus Thor kicks ass!

Honestly, it's the best werewolf I have ever seen in a movie! This and AWIL! I would say this is even better than one in AWIL, though the creature was really hellish looking in the latter but we never got to see it in action fully and out of the shadows. This movie showed it in full lighting and managed to sell the realism of the creature excellently. Plus the design was well balanced between something hellish and realistic, I'm drawing comparisons from the werewolves seen in Dog Soldiers, which were just giant wolf heads on human body. So as far as design creativity goes, this movie still ranks the best in my opinion.

It's obvious this movie impressed me with its werewolf. As far as plot and acting goes, it's not bad at all. Fairly enjoyable movie worthy of repeat views if you wish to kill the hour with a good werewolf flick.

Still, I wish it was bit longer and that they should have stayed more true to the book but it's not really a big issue. Simple plot makes for a good easy watch. Of course, I loved Thor, never thought I would enjoy a movie with a dog as one the main characters.

I love werewolf movies and I thought the creature (although not the transformation) was very well done. I also enjoyed the idea that Thor knew something was wrong with the Uncle from the very beginning of the movie but couldn't get his stupid humans to understand.

That being said, Uncle Ted was a dunce. He cooks up this stupid idea that "family love" can cure his condition and then decides to test it by camping in his sister and little nephew's backyard, knowing full well that he transforms every night and that one of those nights he might not get himself chained up in time. He was taking an awfully big gamble that he wouldn't slip up one night and then rip his family to shreds.

Time of your life, huh, kid?

yeah what a dick haha

I never understood why a werewolf has to be killed by silver bullets, this and AWIL have them killed by any bullet or weapon, this film has a werewolf that can change at any moon even through they show only the full moon.

The werewolf design is bad ass.

its a pretty scary werewolf for a 1996 film i think it kicked ass minus the transformation scene lol i think they got lazy there ; )

I honestly don't know why so many people seem to dislike this movie. I'm a bit of a werewolf nut and this is one of my favourite films (the book it's based on is also very good). Perhaps it is the fact that the dog takes such a major role - if you're not a dog-lover you might find that strange or annoying. Personally I think it adds to the film - I mean, a werewolf AND an Alsatian? The only way it could be better is if there were cats in it too.

"Bad Moon" is one of the best werewolf films ever made! The werewolf in this film looked so much better than those in "The Howling" films (and I love those movies too) but the "Bad Moon" werewolf beats "The Howling" IMO. "Dog Soldiers" is pretty good too but I agree "Bad Moon" has the better werewolf.

All the hate with "Bad Moon"? -- I'd like to understand that too. Is it because Mariel Hemingway and/or Michael Paré? Both are good actors and I personally like both of them. Is it because of the story or the special effects? The story and the special effects in "Bad Moon" is great to me... so I'm left to wonder what is so wrong with "Bad Moon" compared to other werewolf films.

i liked it. it had that early Sci Fi channel movie feel.

Too bad Warners dumped it considering BAD MOON has, some really good performances from all the actors. Not to mention the humorous scene where Ted pees in thor's doghouse. Priceless.

Having the dog being the hero is a tough sell in the horror market.

It was brilliant though - A Boy and His Dog vs. the Wolfman!

Stannis: "The siege begins at sunrise."

I went into this film with really bad expectations (because of what the critics have said and the rating it has on this site) and so you can imagine I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a bit better than I had anticipated. Not by much, but there were still a few surprises in it and yes, the Werewolf itself looked F-ing awesome.

That being said, I did have a few minor problems with the movie. The acting was average at best. And I don't really understand what was the point of that scene with the guy who threatened to sue Janet. I thought they were establishing that she was a lawyer early in the story so that fact would become important later on, but it was very insignificant and pointless overall.

The film also suffers from a very short run-time. I think it would have served it better to go more in depth with Ted's struggle with his Lycanthropy and his relationship with his sister, which would have made us care about the characters more. (Not that I wasn't completely unsympathetic towards them.) But it would have improved the quality of the film.

But honestly, considering how very few Werewolf films of quality there are....this one wasn't bad at all. And any film where the dog is the hero and saves the day is worth a watch in my book!

The point of the scene with the guy threatening Janet is to show how protective Thor is of his family. This is much clearer in the book, which is told from Thor's point of view. There is a lot more detail in the book, and additional characters (it's actually Janet's husband, not her, who is the lawyer in the book, and there are 3 children).

Thank you for clearing that up. A lot of details go amiss when you adapt a book to film.
