Spoilers - Should the ending have...

... been a dark one instead of what they did? They were perfectly setup for it with with the twist but they had to keep the movie formulaic. The final scene with the tape was a good one but the creepy global warming factor would have played huge in a dark ending. If they could have seen the future I bet they might have tried it.

All good SciFi movies should have a dark ending, i.e. Planet of the Apes, Alien, Omega Man, 1984, Blade Runner, Brazil....but i still think The Arrival holds up today as a good flick with major "rewatchability".

I believe it should, this ending just leaves you with this stupid thought about all these aliens with their superior intelligence and technology, investing tremendous amounts of time and patience for their plan, being stopped by ONE Charlie Sheen? Even though it was kind of cool as it was - and I just love the last line "If you can't tend to your own planet, none of you deserve to live here.", it keeps echoing in your head during the credits.

How many Charlie Sheens do you reckon it should've taken?
