Don't understand Bobby's angle

I can't figure out what Bobby was doing with the nickel. I understand he probably used the money he got from Don to buy it and sell it back to Don but why? And why lie about see the guy with the suitcase?

reply

He looked up to Don like a parent or mentor. He needed his approval.

He lied about the guy with the suitcase because he didn't want Don to think he let him down.

He got the nickel because he wanted Don to be happy, because he knew Don wasn't going to be able to steal his coin back.

Thanks. So did he even know where the guy they were going to rob lived or did he make that up too which would've essentiually sent Teach on a wild goose chase?

reply

I doubt if Bobby even knew where the guy lived; he lied about everything from seeing the guy, to where he bought the coin, to which hospital Fletcher was admitted to. The only thing he was truthful about was that Fletcher had a broken jaw and was at a hospital.

AND . . . that one truth he told was the thing that got him clouted on the side of the head with a telephone

it seems to me that Teach is the first one to mention Masonic Hospital, and that's how Bobby gets it in his head. poor kid.
