No one has anything to say about this movie?

I liked it. Bug Mamet fan. Great cast, reminded me of that movie 'SMOKE' with Harvey. Why such a low rank, it wasn't Godfather but it has class, in a classic David 'Wag the Dog' Mamet way

I dunno. Maybe more CG effects might make it better. : )

Someone should remake it. :)

"Are you a truck driver?"
"No, I'm a beautician...of course I'm a truck driver!"

I saw AMERICAN BUFFALO when it first came out. At the time, I was taking a movie class where I got to see movies of all types just before they were released in the theaters; therefore we could get to form our own opinions before the critics passed judgement for everyone. As for AMERICAN BUFFALO, it came across to me as essentially a play that was filmed. Also, there were only three actors in the whole movie; Dustin Hoffman who played the main character Teach, Dennis Franz and a black actor who's name I can't think of right now.

I'd rather see it on stage, that was my impression of it.

When I first saw Glengary Glenross, I didn't like it either...the dialog was too stylized - it just sounded stupid to me.

But then I saw it years later and loved it. The over-the-top aggression and hopelessness...it's very funny!

You need to enjoy the pattern of the patter...that's really the POINT of the movie. They could be talking about anything. and there's just something interesting and fun about that patter. and if you don't "get it"...try again some other time.

Everyone doesn't need to like everything every time. I don't like liver or maple candy, but some people LOVE liver and maple candy (not together!)

I think the fact that David Mamet is still around doing plays and movies is proof that some people DO like the patter.

(spoiler alert}

My complaint of the movie: when Hoffman smashes the display cases and franz just sits there, like he's justified.

It was like when Spike lee threw the trash can thru the window of the pizzaria in "do the right thing"...I didn't get it as being justified.

Late one night after work, my co-worker was driving me home. We drove past the building this was being filmed in during the tail end of the filming. I saw a bunch of people standing around at like 3 am (the film crew I thought) hugging and shaking hands. I tried looking for Hoffman as I was a fan and couldn't see him. That was until I looked harder and realized it was the shortest guy in the crowd. No offense, just my recollection :)

I think it's a very good film. Dennis Franz and Dustin Hoffman play off each other exceptionally well while Sam Nelson more than holds his own as an eager young turk who isn't nearly as naïve as he seems to be.
