WAAAAY better than 'All Dogs Go to Heaven 1'!!!

I don't get all the hate for this film. It's a GREAT sequel! MUCH easier to follow along with! Plus Anne-Marie isn't in it!!! (Unless they showed her grown up and no longer OBNOXIOUS, there was really no point for her to be in this movie.) Now as for why Penny's omission from "The Rescuers 2: Down Under" is never criticized by ANYONE but me? THAT I have no idea about!!!

But I will say that whoever prefers Anne-Marie OVER Penny is quite frankly HIGH (If you know what I mean...)

Now, again, this is an awesome movie. "All Dogs 1" was just lackluster, had a rather confusing plot and Anne-Marie's naivety and inexplicable SICKNESS (WTF???) just ruined it.

I'm quite appalled so many people adore that original, but hate this sequel. >:(

It's been a while since I've seen this film in its entirety, so I don't know how it holds up since the last time I've watched it, however I remember absolutely LOVING Red as a villain. Heck, he's probably one of my favourite animated non-Disney villains of all time. His villain song is awesome too.

Whether the rest of the film holds up as well as he does? I cannot say for certain, though I do remember liking it a lot.

I've never seen the original, though.

All Dogs 2 was bad in everything, even worse, it negated any plot from the first movie and the series was based upon #2.

I agree that this is an underrated and amazing sequel. I've always adored everything about it--the EXQUISITE music, the fine animation, the compelling and dramatic plot, the humor, the beloved old characters and charming new ones. Sasha became an all-time favorite character of mine the instant I laid eyes on her (I was already the world's hugest fan of Rita from Oliver & Company!) Honestly, as a franchise, the entire ADGTH thing stands up very well. Yes, there's an apparent time discrepancy between the original and the sequel. But overlooking or attempting to explain that away...it's pretty much brilliant otherwise. Even the TV series and Christmas Carol double-episode were, overall, pretty awesome and enjoyable for fans--or anyone else willing to give them a shot.

Now, I don't agree that the sequel is BETTER than the first. The original Bluth film is a gritty, daring, enchanting, timeless masterpiece, the likes of which are very rarely--if ever--created anymore. Even as a child, I did not find it at all difficult to follow or comprehend. I'm also with the majority of fans that loved the sweet Anne-Marie. However, like Penny (whom I also like), it wasn't *necessary* to include her in the sequel, which is a separate story and a new phase in the lives (or afterlives) of Charlie and Itchy. I do appreciate it when they throw us a bone and at least confirm what's going in the futures of such characters, but as she wasn't the MAIN focus and her story was satisfactorily concluded in the first, it wasn't imperative that we see her again. "The Rescuers Down Under" is another truly exceptional sequel--far above the level of quality many people typically associate with them. In fact, my family largely prefers it to the first Rescuers. I like it a little bit more, too, and that's saying something!

As for Anne Marie...what the heck was your problem with her?!? I think I do prefer her to Penny, a little bit, and I'm definitely not high at this moment. Both little girls are plenty cute and lovable, though. Perhaps it's just that ADGTH ranks higher than The Rescuers with me.

I like you, Um. I like largeness...

I loved this one more than the 1st. Plus, it gives a lighter tone to it. Whereas the 1st one had a darker tone to it. I do feel bad for Judith Barsi who played Ann-Marie though the poor baby. :-(

This movie holds nothing to the original. While not a perfect movie by any means the original All Dogs Go to Heaven had amazing animation with stunning and symbolic imagery and superb voice acting. The story was also pretty deep and a good satire on mobster films and the criminal underworld in general. Carface was also more of a threat and VERY intimidating, where as in this sequel and it's follow-up series he's more of a buffoon. I seriously can't see how anybody could honestly prefer this petty excuse for a sequel to the original.

...Doh!

Yeah what the hell? This film is in no way better than the first ADGTH. I mean for starters, it's a rehash of the first film and feels rather dumbed down. In fact, I tend to assume it was made by people who never saw the original film.

I think you maybe right Crypt, notice how in this movie, that-
1) Charlie seems to be bored with Heaven, um, what? Why? In the first movie he escaped Heaven becuase he had a score to settle with Carface and wanted to continue his life down a negative spiral. But as it progressed and he became attached to Anne-Marie, who was his ticket to making big money, he later redeemed himself and entered Heaven a new dog. In this one he doesn't seem to have changed much.
2) At the end of the first movie Carface is seen stealing one of the clocks yet this is never touched upon in the sequel, apparently he's become such a good guy his kindness is rewarded.
3) Anne-Marie is never mentioned in this, but she was the reason why Charlie turned good at the end of the first movie and she was the owner of Itchy.

...Doh!

My points exactly. I very imagined that MGM executives probably gave Paul Sabella and his crew the character designs and short biographies of Charlie, Itchy and Carface with telling them "Alright, Charlie's the scam artist of a rebel, Itchy's the coward and Carface is the bad guy." And then they were like, "there, go!" and basically came up with the sequel on the fly by pressing the reset button.

Not a very good way to start of a sequel especially when you take the events of the first film in consideration. Even if they did see and they were told not to or they deliberately not see the original, they have no excuse. This film basically just doesn't care.

No, it's a petty excuse for a sequel that takes a dump on the original, and the series that spawned off of it is even worse.

No, it's not. It's 100% better than the original. Final. Fact.

You two disagree. Saying yes it is, no it isn't over and over again doesn't convince anyone.

I hated this stupid movie. You liked it. The world continues turning...but you should both probably reply a hundred more times to really hammer in the 'facts.'

Well how KIND of you. The first was heartfelt. And entertaining, but as for your constant bashing of a pretty impressive child actress, who was simply doing her job and very well considering her real life was a tormented piece of hell, and the poor baby ended up shot and killed by her own POS father before the movie was even releasesd, so keep up the speaking ILL of the dead, you sound like her POS father.

reply

OK, I'll stop talking ILL of her, thank you. (I was just in a bad mood whenever it was I wrote that stuff...) :/
